I have 20 grams of dried peruvian torch that I ordered from the internet, and as I have zero experience with it, I have a couple of questions.

    1) Is 20 grams a large enough amount to be worth taking, given the apparent sickness it causes? Can I expect a decent trip?

    2) Does this sickness ruin the trip at all? I've taken hawaiian baby woodrose seeds a few times, and the awful sick feeling has always ruined the experience. Apart from the unpleasantness of feeling sick, it seems very wasteful of the active ingredients to vomit it up.

    3) Is there any way to avoid the sickness, given that I'm not a chemist, so I don't trust myself to do any preparation involving chemicals that could be considered dangerous - unless it could be a guaranteed foolproof method with no risk of accidentally going blind or anything?

    Thanks.

Yes, I think 20 grams is a good starting dose. It should give a nice light trip, with closed eye visuals. (thats what I get on that amount, anyway)

    2.
No, the sickness doesnt ruin it. Its well worth the small amount of nausea for the experience!

    3.
I found I get less nausea when I boil the cactus in 3 washes (each for about an hour), throwing away the plant material and boiling down the resulting liquid to a thick, disgusting green sludge. Theres still a little bit of nausea at the start, but not enough to make me puke. The hardest part about it is getting the stuff in you, its just so vile! I recommend mixing it with a helluva lot of smoothie, to try and disguise the taste.
The only other method I've tried is just grinding the cactus into powder, mixing it with lemon and water and chugging it. I could only get half of it down, and I threw up about 40 minutes later.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip!

    cheers for that Perilless.

What is meant by "3 washes" exactly? Do you mean:
grind the plant matter up and chuck it in a pan of water, then boil for an hour, let it cool, boil again, let it cool, boil again then seive everything out?
or do you seive after every boil?

also, how much water should I use?
is the mescaline resistant to high temperatures (literally boiling) or do I have to be careful how hot it gets?

also, how long can the resulting sludge be kept, do I have to drink it down immediately after preparation or can it be kept for a while?

Hey! :D I'll try to help the best I can.

1- It's not too much at all! I had 50 grams for my first time. It was, surprisingly, pretty mellow (well at least, a lot more than expected), but I suspect the brew hasn't been prepared properly. I don't recall any nausea.

2- If there was any sickness, I doubt it would ruin the trip. Most of the time, purging is a necessary step before accessing the beauty of the plant you ingested.

3- I doubt you could avoid it. Cactus is somewhat toxic, so your body reacts accordingly. Just go with the flow, don't try to hold it back and it'll be fine. I realized that most of nausea is caused by something painful/useless/bad for you that you purge, instead of confronting it symbolically during your trip.

This is good info right here.

The only thing I'll add is I've never puked on San Pedro (never had Peruvian torch) and I've taken some solid doses, probably close to 100 grams (I've taken 32 inches before) . The nausea does not ruin the trip, although you may want to have a designated area that you can lay down at.

By 3 washes I think it means cooking the cacti, filter, toss liquid aside, cook the cacti again using new water, and so on, you do that 3 times. Then throw the cacti flesh and reduce the brew about half of it, cool down and drink. You'd like to add lemon juice to help the taste a bit (it's so damn bitter!).

Not sure about the water quantity to use, I always go randomly, like "hummm this seems to be enough", but I'd say it's about 1 cup for each 25g. Don't bring it to a boil, the thing should simmer but no heavy boiling. You can keep the brew for up to 3 days in the fridge. I guess you may freeze it, but I never tried.

I'm really thinking about giving Peruvian Torch a go very soon.

As far as nausea goes, after reading a few trip reports, it seems that grinding it up and putting the powder into gel capsules seems to work pretty well. That way you don't have to endure the horrible taste.. which i think is what makes most people nauseous in the first place.

This is just from what i have read though, i think i may definitely give it a try. Now i just need to order some :D

but good luck with your trip! :sunny:

The taste isn't so bad if you pinch your nose and drink it fast! ;)

how fast are the effects likely to come on with the boiling and gel capules methods? Ideally I want to plan it so that I'm tripping in the early morning where it's just starting to get light.

San Pedro tea takes about 45 minutes to feel alerts and then can take up to 2 hours to start tripping.
