Anyone interested particularly in or around London or doing it already? Please message me! Peace Hoppi!
Anywhere in the UK, I imagine. But in any case, I dont think the squatting scene in London is what it was back in its hey-day of the 1960s and 70s. You might like to check out- http://www.squatter.org.uk And this thread might be useful... http://libcom.org/forums/london/finding-others-to-squat-with-in-london ...note well the bit that says: "If you’re thinking of turning up in London, finding a squat and claiming benefit, then you are going to be begging on the streets in no time unless you can know some friends who are already there." .
Awesome thanks for the second link! The first one I already knew about but it's great and I met some people through them a couple of years ago. I can't wait to get stuck in again as I love the scene Hopefully the law isn't too harsh these days but I'm sure there's a way around it whatever it is lol ^^
Additionally if anyone feels like a cheap flight to super cool Malta with awesome houses to squat here instead, let me know!
I was talking to an old guy who told me he was born on a WW2 airfield locally, where his parents were illeagally squatting due to the lack of housing post-WW2. Apparently a lot of the newly-disused army camps round here were squatted at that time. A little bit of social history that ought to be better recorded. .
it does seem pretty active still! I've been on places like SquatJuice and yeah still lots of activity, and the Advisory Service for Squatters! I think I'll be staying in Malta for the time being anyway, but I'll be visiting London too! So who knows!
Is there much of a movement outside of London ? Just about everything I've seen on the subject seems to be London-centric. Seeing this week the projected number of house repossessions over the next few years here in the North-East, you can envisage a situation of lots of homeless people and lots of empty houses that no-one can afford to buy. It'll be interesting to see if a squatting movement evolves here as a consequence. The way things are going, I might need it myself... .
