http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/album.php?albumid=6563 Been thinking of entering my work into the Agora Art Gallery Contest. Anyone want to let me know which of my paintings (I plan to submit up to 3) should be submitted? I'd appreciate any feedback. You can see my paintings from my profile page above.
My weekend effort: Results of the Agora Art Gallery International Fine Art Competition are out. I didn't make it. To tell you the truth, I really didn't expect to win anything. First, it's an international competition. Second, with prizes totaling $38,000, I knew the competition would be stiff. Third, I was competing against trained artists, probably all with much more experience than I. Fourth, it was the first competition I entered, and who knows if I even filled out the forms correctly. It was good experience, and there's always next year.
Oh wow, among my favorites yet. I know you asked for prices earlier in this thread, but I could see prints of this work selling for $60.
I like so many of them that I didn't quote my favorites. I like that you're constantly painting , have you ever tried painting directly what you see in nature or you've always just used pictures?
I've done that with pastels several years ago. The problem with watercolors in that scenario is that one needs a nearly flat surface on which to work. An easel doesn't really work as the colors run. There may be a few instances when one can paint on site, but they're fairly rare. I've painted from pictures and from memory and from sketches I've made. I have sketched on site and then re-sketched it when I paint it, so I suppose that qualifies. I paint almost every weekend. It's starting to get tough as the weather improves as there is so much to do outside now (I love to play golf). I find a great deal of peace and relaxation in painting, so I intend to continue. In fact, I have more photos of the boy in the first painting that I will paint soon. Not every painting I do is worth posting on here or on my web site. Although they're not great paintings, I still learn from every project - what works and what doesn't.
I got several paintings done over the long weekend. Check them out: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/album.php?albumid=6563
