I believe our bodies have the power to heal itself. I don't know of any cases personally but I have heard of cases where the individual has had stage 4 cancer and has been able to reserve that to at least the point that it can be operated on if not clearing it up altogether.

In the book, The Secret, Dr John Hagelin, Quantum Physicist and Public Policy Expert writes: "Our body is really the product of our thoughts. We're beginning to understand in medical science the degree to which the nature of thoughts and emotions actually determines the physical substance and structure and function of our bodies."

Important to also note, from The Secret as well, Dr John Demartini says: "If somebody is in a situation where they're sick and they have an alternative to try to explore what is in their mind creating it, versus using medicine, if it's a acute situation that could really bring death to them, then obviously the medicine is a wise thing to do, while they explore what the mind is about. So you don't want to negate medicine. Every form of healing has a place."

As for myself, I struggle with keeping a positive mental attitude. I have to be deligent in pursuing it on a daily basis. I read and listen to personal development books and cd's constantly.

Of them all, The Secret has re-enforced my belief that the mind is a very powerful instrument.

I have read that book and found it to be very informative and helpful. I think it is an excellent book for everyone to read.

The ability to heal, in my opinion starts with inner. I believe very strongly in medicine but I also believe that we have work to do once the medicine is done. How we deal with life and illness is an indicator of how we are going to heal.

In my personal case, both times I have been treated for cancer, I would not have survived without the medicine. The medicine though can only cure the physical part of me it can not give me the will to go on nor will it give me the peace to heal.

Today I had my check up and my oncologist gave me news that is wonderful. The tumor had shrunk and was considered dead from the chemo and I had 8 pin head spots that they also shrunk with chemo. I had had the maximum for that treatment so they started me on Tarceva as it works to make growth not possible by changing the chemistry of the tissue so that it can not grow. Tarceva was started as I am stage 4 and it is the only option left. Instead it has for some reason allowed further shrinkage for me. That was not suppose to happen. :)

    Bonus! :)

I do believe that it has happened because of all that I do that the medicine does not.

I really enjoyed your post and thoughts.

I was thinking about this recently, and why it doesn't work MORE, why more people don't manage to heal themselves this way (even of the ones who actually try it). I believe in it, as I also believe other aspects of the physical body can be controlled by the mind.

I think the problem is, to make it work, you need to know what you are doing.

That perhaps it isn't any good to imagine and visualize the body fighting cancer in an abstract way, but that a person needs to FULLY understand the ACTUAL process that they are focusing on. If I want to heal a wound faster, I can't just imagine skin growing in a "cartoon" like manner, but i'd have to really know what is happening, and focus on that.

Does that make sense? Just some thoughts I was having, anyway. This would explain why there are only one off cases of people healing themselves. I will perhaps read more about those cases, to see if what they did supports my thinking.

    Welcome to the forum! :)

I think it works far more than we think it does and even know about. People self heal all the time by simply listening to their bodies. They crave something and eat that. They do not think about why they just do.

We are not trained to trust that though. To be honest, with many people if you approach this they tend to look at you like you are slightly off. :)

When someone is really ill it is often difficult to clear thought as it is very overwhelming. That only adds to the confusion of the body vs mind.

Medicine is changing in that a lot of practitioners support alternative methods now. Most cancer clinics run meditation groups as well as teaching relaxation techniques.

I firmly believe that the mind is one of the best tools to help heal. Medicine is not to be discredited but I do feel that medicine alone is not the answer. When you are ill it is not only one organ or function that is damaged and that causes ripples in the rest of your body as well as mental well being.
