Have you ever noticed that in all the classic Disney movies, there isn't a mother of the main character? Why is that?

    That's a good question.

It's like that in Pixar too. At least one of the main character's parents are absent. It could just be an inside joke.

mom's get in the way. can you imagine the BS Aladdin would have had to go through if Princess Jasmine's mom was around?

I think it does have to do with simplified plot.

Disney was trying to brain wash us little ones to rebel us against our parents. Those cartoon characters didn't need their parents and neither did we.

Was Donald Duck the Father or the Uncle to those 3 midget Ducklings. How many fathers do you see? Lion King. I don't remember Peter Pan, do we ever meet either parents there?

yeah i think you briefly meet or at least see shadows of the parents in Peter Pan.

I've noticed this pattern too, and my aunt did too and boycotted disney movies for a couple years...it was funny, now my cousin watches whatever.

it's kind of frustrating when you think about it, is there some subliminal message or symbolism? I'd never really thought about it simplifying the plot before, but it does kind of make sense...

I've come to the conclusion that Mickey Mouse is synonymous with the grim reaper. "For every laugh, there should be a tear"-Walt Disney. On top of the sad little orphan tales, ever noticed someone or something dies in damn near every Disney movie? Yeah, Mickey = Reaper. I'm sure of it.

well i was doing some research to see if walt disney was an orphan or something, and i learned that his mom was born like 5 miles from where i grew up.

unfortunately, he was not an orphan, so nothing there.

^ most of the classic movies are adaptations, anyways.

The Lion King was the first "original" story they produced, and it was completely ripped off of the Japanese series Kimba the White Lion

I assume the reason for the lack of parents in Disney films is that Disney often tries to create fantastic stories that kids might actually dream about, or want to be a part of. What kid dreams of how fantastic it would be to... have your parents around?

Thats because Disney sucks ass! They send subliminal messages to the children that make them annoying little brats.

It probably is in part to create a sympathetic story line.
