..So, I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and he said that recently he has been doing a lot of reading.. while stoned! He says he really able to get into the story haha.

So i thought to myself, what the hell! I haven't read a good book in awhile..I should give this a try.
But sadly I have read all the books I own before..so I was wondering if you guy's could suggest some good books for me to read.

Basically I'm just looking for a great fucking story! lol ...Adventure, Fantasy..doesn't matter, just something that is going to keep me interested.. or just a great book overall.

It would be much appreciated! :cheers2:

I love almost anything from the Warhammer series. Try the Gotrek and Felix omnibus. Fantasy's just about the only thing I could read high.

History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters by Julian Barnes

The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut

The Transmigration of Timothy Archer by Philip K Dick
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K Dick
Dr. Bloodmoney, or How we Got Along After the Bomb by Philip K Dick

I Am Legend by Richard Mathesson

And in case reading while stoned doesn't work out for you (I can't do it):

    Watchmen
    V for Vendetta
both graphic novels by Alan Moore, both way way better than the films (especially Watchmen =P)

I almost bought those graphic novels! Both of them, but I bought the Chris Jericho autobiography instead. I'm beginning to think I made the wrong choice.

Watchmen is one of the best things I've ever read.

I'd probably consider it the best thing I just listed.

I want the $75 deluxe extra-sized edition loaded with special features when I get a job.

i really enjoy the Kushiel's Legacy series (starts with Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey) its got steamy moment but the story is delectable.

Sword of Truth Series is great too, by Terry Goodkind, but epics take a loooooong time to read, lol, im never satisfied until i get to the very end, so i have to set aside a lot of marathon reading time to get through them.

    Hooray for reading!

I spent a few years drinking some nice but cheap French red wine and reading all of Philip K Dick's books. He's amazing. Not amazing writing. But amazing thinking about humans and what makes us human.

    And he was crazy.

    Anything by him is good.

Just searched it online and it looks pretty cool. I like the idea of a dwarf and a human adventuring around together..sounds like it could be epic.

Did a quick search on some of these and they sound awesome. Sirens of Titan sounds intense! I could also probably get into the history of the world. I'm not too familiar with Philip K Dick novels..though i have heard of The Transmigration of Timothy Archer.

As for the last two you posted, I watched the films but have not read the books. My cousin said he read Watchmen and that it was one of the best books he ever read hah.
..I may have to just make a huge list of books to buy! lol

I agree and disagree. His straight fiction were a lot better of writing, but were only published posthumously. And his sci-fi got better as his career went on (for much of it, he was churning out novels as fast as he could to keep paying the bills).
But even when he didn't have the best prose, his skills at pulp, pacing, and plot arrangement were top notch.

I really like Ernest Hemingway, although he could be a bit difficult to read sometimes.. Stephen King (of course) and Kurt Vonnegut are awesome, too. My boyfriend's mom let me borrow The Good Earth and East Wind West Wind by Pearl S. Buck and they are awesome so far!

also, classicreader.com has a bunch of books that you can read free, online. They're mostly really, old.. but they have a lot of good ones!

Oh yea I agree with what you are saying.

Before I had my sailboat I had a lot of free time to enjoy wine. I'd sit and read his book-drinking the day away. I'd rush to read his books-but I would read the end very slowly-I didn't want the story to end-I wanted to know the ending-but I didn't want it to end.

He had a neat quote that he loved writing his books-but was always depressed after finishing them because his characters 'died' in his mind.

I read all of his books. I read Valis. I read most of his books again.

Lots of wine was imbibed and books read. I enjoyed that.

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey is a good read. It's basically a drug and alcohol rehab story. I liked it.

    Junky by William Burroughs
    Dharma Bums by Jack Karouac
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter Thompson (if you like the movie you'll like the book they're almost identical except a few different scenes in the book)
Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff if you're into philosophy

yes The Tao of Pooh is an excellent book. I still read Winnie The Pooh books every few months. It centers me.

I had a book full of Essays people had written trying to find meaning in the Pooh books-everything from a communist reading of the book (Rabbit was the land-owner taking advantage of Pooh and Piglet) to Eyore as Christ. It's amazing what people can see in those books.
