A federal judge has found Google guilty of engaging in wiretapping with its Street View cars that roamed every street in the USA and many in Europe and elsewhere.

The cars recorded packets of data coming from open WiFi networks, along with GPS data of their location. The judge ruled that those packets of data are private communications, not public, and therefore any recording of that data is an invasion of privacy.

This is a huge decision in favor of privacy rights of Americans and foreigners. Google never had a right to record such data, and most likely it was at the behest of the NSA. Google has many government contracts that it keeps secret and it's unclear how Google was able to finance such a huge project on a worldwide scale without government help.

Now Google is facing lawsuits stemming from this illegal wiretapping. But it's likely the case will be appealed and once the involvement of the US government is disclosed, there's a good possibility the case will get thrown out in higher courts.

Wow. That's scary. I'm sure glad I keep ours locked up with WEP. I hope they do get sued over it, what a violation!

ok I'm not very techincal. For example, I still have a printer/scanner that I can't hook up. Nevertheless, I've read some stuff about how visiting some sites can cause you to be "tracked."

I would like to fix my computer to block google. How do I do that?

VOT, printers are usually hooked up via a USB cable, unless you have an old computer or an old printer...

If you have a recent version of windows your computer should recognize the printer automatically once the cable is hooked up.

What is the model of your printer?

I love how some of our tax dollars are starting to make a 1984ish world possible! If you really look around you can kind of see it. I grew up with computers, but as far as networking goes this is why I've always stayed here.

Since the US government financed the Internet from the start, they've always been intimately involved in its development and its capabilities for spying and warfare. It was originally created to enable the US military to communicate in the event of an attack on the USA. So it's military potential has always been a priority.

And as soon as technology becomes available that enables the government to learn more about individuals and groups as well as foreign governments, it implements it, since it funded its development too.

So as soon as our gov't was capable of monitoring all Internet traffic, it did. And it records it all, and stores it indefinitely. And now the NSA is building a bigger, better new hi-tech center that will be cyberwar central for America.

So rather than being a passive observer of Internet data, the US is now going on the offensive against its enemies, foreign and domestic. Armed with Google's street view of every address in the developed world, the IP#s of all routers and wireless networks in the area, satellite images, recorded data from all those IP#s, their facebook pages, their friends data, their browsing history, all their electronic communications, if they're US citizens this gets matched up to social security #s, tax records, medical records, police records, etc, etc.

The US has attacked Iran (with Israeli help) with a very sophisticated worm, as well as helping with communications during the aborted Iranian revolution. It has helped undermine governments in the Mideast with Facebook (read CIA) pages organizing youth revolts. But it's not going to stop there, now that the US has found the social networking weapon.

It's all getting linked up like never before. There is little electronic data anywhere on the net that isn't being recorded, analyzed, correlated, flagged, and ready to view by at least one million authorized personnel.

Now that the US gov't is going on the offensive, all this data is ammunition to be used against "enemies", and apparently every week there's some new "enemy" of the US who wasn't before...

I'm sort of surprised that something like this is actually being taken to court. I mean, the government and CIA already have a bunch of private info they shouldn't have.

i would urge you all to remember that the government also had their fingers in the pie of the human genome study...the implications between that and the net are orwellian, and that's an understatement. eugenics, psywar....the list is endless and nightmarish. we can only hope their thirst for power is only exceeded by their incompetence.

someone has posted a thread on 'the matrix is real'. yah...no shit.

Would it surprise you if I told you that both government and companies sue themselves all the time? As weird as it sounds, it happens.. a lot!

    Ok,
I'm not very technical. Would it bother you if I politely asked how to use this information? And thank you for posting this information. It's exactly the kind of information that should be shared.

I take civil rights and privacy very seriously. Unfortunately I need to pursue a technical solution and not a legal one. Because at my age, I'll be dead before any legal suit I bring against Google would ever see the inside of a courtroom.

I think you mean HP 1510. I have the same unit! Try printing something, even this page. Just go to File/Print. See if you get an error message. Your computer should recognize the printer. If not then you may need to find the driver online (go to HP website if you don't have a disk).

    Good luck!

Of course you realize it's a Google conspiracy to not allow you to print stuff, since they own the net and everything on it... (at least they think so) ;)

Well I'm sure if we used some numerology we could make the word "google" have a numeric value of 666. At least than we would be able to get the Tea Party nuts to go after it.

    On that note,
Thanks for the offer of help. But I'm going to wait until my grandchild comes over. This thing sends a million pop ups at me and asks for stuff I don't have.
