So now Jack Kevorkain joins those he helped commit suicide. Whatever you may have thought of him I can't help wondering if we might see the day when what he did is a common practice, that we might even see euthanasia centers, and people will wonder what the controversy was all about. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43265235/ns/us_news-life?GT1=43001
I don't agree with suicide under most circumstances but I do believe he helped a lot of people and that's got to count for something.
there's a big fight in montana between the terminally ill and the christians over this not allowed to live your life, not allowed to end it . . .
he was lucky enough to die w/o needing the use of his own services. hopefully one day we'll progress as a society far enough that we'll allow everyone to die the way they wish without being stigmatized.
If I'm dying of cancer, MS or some other disease I'd like the option of having my life ended before I turn into a vegetable.
I wish this man hadn't been imprisoned. I feel that he did a good thing. I say this because I'm suicidal, but I'm too afraid to do anything to myself (for many reasons). We didn't choose to be born in this terrible world, and we should be able to choose whether or not we want out. Until then, let's wait for those euthanasia centers :] Also, Dr. Death is a badass nickname.
Agreed. We should all have the right to die on our own terms. If I were terminally ill in some way I'd probably like a little help myself.
Sorry to burst your bubble but you can't be considered suicidal until your fear of death/pain is overcome by your desire to die and you actually attempt it with gusto... Most of us want to die at some point or another, it is a perfectly natural reaction to the feeling of powerlessness we endure in the face of the injustice in the world. All of a rational mind would surely condone this man's actions? To condemn and convict him is laughable. It's always the (fundamental) religious lot that hold the rest of us back, it would seem... Damn pro-lifers. When will they realise that they are creating hell on earth for those that think? RIP Dr. Death, you had the courage to do what you thought was right and truly help people. If only there were more like him, there would be a lot less suffering and a lot of resources saved.
Your life, your choice. To me it doesn't matter what your health is. You own yourself. If you wanna end it, don't let me stop you. But I'm getting your stash when you're gone!
Meh, whatever you call it, I don't want to be alive, and I haven't for a while now. I've contemplated ways to do it in the future, but not now. But yes, about pro-lifers. I wonder if humanity realizes that overpopulation has been a problem for such a long time. By overpopulation, I don't mean so many humans that it becomes a problem to other humans. I mean that humanity is so adaptive that we've begun disrupting the balance of this planet and it's life-forms (if there ever was such balance in the first place, order isn't innately "good," in my opinion). Hopefully that made sense, I'm terrible at conveying my thoughts
Yeah, I get your jist. No doubt it is the fact that you have appraised the human situation that makes you want to die. I can relate.
I'm undecided on the issue. I saw on CBS Sunday Morning that segment about him and they showed the video of him killing that one guy. I can understand why the guy wanted to die - since he couldn't use his muscles properly... but yet I would've rather not seen the video footage. Too high a risk of giving me nightmares. On the other hand if that guy would've just waited and still been around today, there should be some sort of medication or treatment that could help ?
I suppose one of the main issues would be working out exactly how to make sure it was the wishes of the terminally ill person, and not their families. You would need to insure the patient was of totally sound mind when they agreed to euthanasia. I hope he rests in peace, the debate will certainly continue.
There are few rights I believe in so strongly as the right to end one's own life. Not during a sudden unexpected (but still "normal") life tragedy, but when in serious chronic or terminal pain. But today's blood-drinking christ-lovers and muhammed's hymen-humpers imagine that it's not okay, so... most suffer needlessly. Because their imaginary friends say so.
