Musical taste is completely subjective. The song on the OP posted was ok, nothing fantastic. I listen to music that I like because it ENTERTAINS me. Listening to music for any other reason other then that it entertains you kind of seems like you are lying to yourself. I do agree that some bands are more talented then others, in the technical skill set sort of way. But that does not make one band good and another bad. Plenty of the popular music today is filled with some of the most untalented "musicians" I have ever heard. But for some strange reason it entertains people and therefore is popular and "good".

The best bands in the world of metal, the ones that are both entertaining and talented are the ones that make it big. You might not think that DevilDriver is that great. But if you have ever seen them live, you know they play extremely entertaining music, and that is why I have always enjoyed their music, and why they are wildly popular all over the world. If you no longer listen to music because it entertains you, and only value bands based on their technical ability, then perhaps you have lost your way when it comes to the love of music.

Who cares if there is a million carbon copies of the same band. If the music is entertaining, then it is worth listening to. If it is not, then dont worry, because it probably wont be around very long.

It can be entertaining for different reasons though, of which the fact that technical it is above average might be the only thing for certain music listeners to appreciate it. Although it may count for you it does not necessarily mean those people have lost their way.

I can't get past the screaming! If I wanted to listen to someone scream I would piss my old lady off.

Wow, does she screams like that? :D

It's not my kind of vocal style either, especially in combination with EXACTLY those kind of clean vocals. The grunting voice reminds me kind of the death metal vocal style which I also do not dig in general.

Thanks, I appreciate that. And yes, I do get tired of these heavier bands I like after about a year. Doesn't matter. I'm obsessed at the moment and that's all that matters. :p But it's strange though. I don't 'outgrow' mellow music ever. I always like my chiller bands and don't think I will ever outgrow them. The band Hopesfall is a good example. Their earlier albums were very heavy, which I DO like, but then their latest album (before they split :( ) was just amazing!

If you care, a key song from their first album, Frailty of Words, would be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0os37xVVoSY
And a key song of their most recent album, Magnetic North, would be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BuGLiRLQFc DRAMATIC CHANGE right??? Well After a while I begin to outgrow aggressive music I really liked, but this music I never grow out of. That MAY be due to the 'lack of creativity' that some of the people in this thread who don't like Metalcore music believe the first song I listed has.

lol youre talking to the right guy - I used to be reeeeeeeally in to hopesfall. My favourite that they put out was a 4 song EP called No Wings to Speak of. After that was the sattelite years. I stopped at A Types. I just couldnt get in to it.

Listeninig to that east of 1989 song and having a hard time with the vocals. But yeah. I think the pre A-types hopesfall is cool.

WOW another Hopesfall fan! But you seriously don't like A-types or Magnetic North? =( I think it's amazing. Aha, oh well... I really like their No Wings to Speak of EP also. And their other albums Satellite Years, and Frailty of Words. But yeah A-Types did sound a little.. uhhh, just too commercial. Magnetic North though, was absolutely perfect IMO. Maybe you'd like the song "Rx Contender the Pretender" off Magnetic North, it's the heaviest on the album.

You'd think a forum like this would have more stoner/doom/sludge fans.

I've been listening to metal for about 8 years now (that feels weird to say) and during that time I got into pretty much every niche of it except for gothic metal, which is generally objectively crap :p. The only new (as in, new to me) metal I can get into generally is particularly well done black, death or doom metal. I dunno, I'm pretty sure the prime of my metal fanhood is behind me. Still, it hits the spot sometimes.

personally I've been listening to metal since. .. my birth. as my mother listened to deep purple when I was a little child.
later on I started listening to rammstein and deicide and stuff...
I think people should just listen to what they do.
at the moment I just love Nile, Rammstein... Cynic, Gorod... Alice in Chains... damn bro, even Karl Sanders. just listen to what makes you feel good, and not what makes you think makes you cooler.:2thumbsup:
