I've had dreads for a few days, they've been back combed like crazy and are easily distinguishable from one another. I've had temp dreads before, and wrapped them with yarn to keep them separated, plus it gave them a good aesthetic value.
I was just wondering, is it okay to wrap my dreads again, or is that going to slow down the maturation process?

I've never used wraps so I can't really say for sure, but I guess it's about finding the balance between helping them stay together, and giving them enough room to move = locking. My main concern with wraps would be mould, but that's not going to happen when they're young I wouldn't think, providing you don't leave them in for too long, and the hassle of having to do them in the first place. That's just me though, I'm lazy when it comes to things like that with dreads. There's a section in the faq about wraps if you haven't seen it already.

I wrapped a few sections of my hair pretty early on (probably not on the 1st week-but within the 1 st few months) I did it loosly over particularly wild bumpy ones, and never left a wrap in too long , I don't think it ever did a whole lot either way - at best, it made some of them seem harder when unwrapped- I do think it weighted down some of the thinner ones and kept them from bunching up on themselves as
Quick, if that makes any sense.

you don't need them, just palmroll everyday, wash once a week and leave them be, there is no magical way to get dreads apart from time :)

Ooooh, thanks for the tips guys! I think for now I will leave them unwrapped, and wrap them lightly when I'm looking for an extra touch, or on a special occasion. They are coming along nicely, even with the short period of time. Looking forward to having a head full of lovely dreads. :)

It's when you do the same process to create real dreads, only a millionth percent of the way. If you wrap them, they can look pretty convincing.

This is something I highly doubt.

I didn't like the effect of wrapping early. the hair looped awkwardly and got all tangled in the wraps. I think waiting like 6 months before wraps is a good plan. throw some beads in instead.
