so i read the -read before posting- and it mentioned products to use
im completly confused. when making and maintaining dreads do you need to use products?
originally i was gonna buy a kit from dreadheadhq and just go with that, but maybe insted of buying all these chemicals, someone could just mention what things i actually need and if i would be cheaper to just but a few products of stuff like wax etc.

this is probably very confusing :)
basically, what products/chemicals did you use when making your dreads and maintaining them? what would be easiest and cheapest?
id like thin neat dreads :)

I don't have dreads but I don't think that many products are nesscary. I heard lock peppa is good and can be used in place of wax and residue free shampoo thats all I would get. And dread zasta or knotty boy dread removal something x) just incase they come out funky and you want to do them over. Idk if im any help.

I didn't use any product, all the maintance I do is ripping once in a while and I wash with baking soda + water. I you want more neat dreads you can use a crochet hook to mantain them, that's all. You don't need any products, dreads are the cheapest hairstyle to mantain.

    Word.

I 've used shampoo or black soap every now and again.
but mostly as far as maitnance:
    baking soda & ACV ,
    trips to the beach,
puling them apart, or even twisting some together
    --
I've used aloe in the past to make them look nice (wasn't super impressed),
and the very very occasional crochet hook when loose baby hair goes rogue ( i use my hook more for connecting my extensions than for my locks-- but that is another story).

    Really- dreads are CHEAP.
Whatever expensive shampoo you might be using now should be switched out to something residue free- or just buy bulk Baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do not use any. The only things you need for dreads is residue-free shampoo, or bicarb + water. Do not buy wax. If you want to kill your dreads, don't put it in. Don't use any. The only products you need, is when you're washing them, and that is preferably with the things I listed above. :)

I wouldn't use wax I heard many bad things about it such as your hair getting moldy due to holding water in your dreads. Also I would use baking soda, it works wonders and leaves no residue. Those companies are just trying to make a buck, diy is the way to go.

    ^ no shit.

try dreadheadhq. they have some really good wax that will lock your hair up TITE! it works much faster than knottyboy. don't forget to get some lock peppa, some tightening gel, some lock-up spray and a bad ass rasta tam too. they sell those for cheap.

the easiest way i've found is to just mix all that shit in a bucket and dump your head in

I'd dump it in a bucket and put the bucket in the bin... You don't need any fancy crap, Pills or potions, just a residue free shampoo and that's it !!
