when all your hair is sectioned with rubberbands, do you keep the rubberbands and start backcombing or do you take them out before hand?
and once the lock is done, do you put a rubber band at the end of it?

    No.
    I did not us rubberbands.
Every time I had EVER put a rubberband in my hair it became a tangled mess. .. I did not want to have to cut that out of my dreads.
PLUS, I have heard many many people say the band started to break down, and got all melty goopy.

I use a few every now and then under certain circumstances.

If you leave them in for weeks and through many washes, they'll go goopy. So if you have one on every dreadlock you're likely to lose track and bad things happen.

Trying to think of a parallel to this, like if you put shampoo in, and leave it in for a week without rinsing it out, bad things will happen. It's common sense.

I don't use them to aid locking, I use them to manipulate the shape or fix dreads I've slept on funny causing them to stand up. Also if I join two thinnies together I put a band at the root for a week or so.
