Normally I wouldn't ask, but this is an emergency. This cat and I are incredibly close. She adopted me roughly 5 years ago and we saved her leg from being amputated from infection. That winter I did physical therapy with her every day till she had nothing but the slightest limp. Now we've moved, and while it was tough at first, she had settled in quite nicely to her new home. But last night around 6, she left the house and never came back. I am in the pit of despair. She ALWAYS comes when I call her, and I have been calling all day and night and there is no answer. I passed out fliers and my fiance called shelters and no one has seen her in the neighborhood... Maybe it's too early to freak out, but this is just so unlike her...
Her name is Nefertiti. We call her Neffi. She is a gray, shorthaired tabby. Anything anyone can contribute would be appreciated. We've torn the house apart and scoured the woods. We are desperate. I am desperate. Part of me thinks I couldn't handle bad news, but another part thinks not having closure is worse.
Thank you all so much for your time and energy. Please send us good vibes. This is pretty devastating to us... She's our first together.

it's only been a night or 2. now that she's settled in her new digs she's probably just exploring her new neighborhood, getting to know the other cats and critters who live around there. i'm not being psychic about this but i do have cats of my own. they'll be really consistant coming in for dinner but every now and then they'll disappear for a day or 3.

oh and if she doesn't show up in another day or two check out where you and she used to live. she might have gotten confused and went there.

I'm sorry you're going through this :( It's sad news. How long have you been in your new place? How far is it from your old place? Did you keep her indoors for the first few weeks? If your old place is nearby, check around there. In the meantime put out her favourite treats and keep up the flyers.

Thank you for responding. We moved three states away, and yes, we kept her in for a little over 2 weeks before taking her out for little outings with me for a few days and then letting her out on her own. We've been here for a little over a month, and for all intents a purposes, she acted like she was home. She is somewhat of a mama's girl. She's my little shadow... Always has been...
I've put out food near a Magnolia tree that I have asked to be a beacon for her. Gotta change it now bc it rained a lot last night and it's probably a soggy mess..
    Dormouse, I really hope you're right. :(

I wish you the best. I cannot offer any experience outside of owning many cats in my life, the last time I moved one of my cats got out the first night! I was feeling exactly like you. I even sat on the porch for hours crying but he even came back the next day! So, if Neffi was inside for weeks I'm sure she'll be home to her mama soon. <3

Thank you all so much. I'm a wreck. I hope today is a better day, too. It's sunny, the rain has stopped, it's cooler today, just generally a better day for traveling. I just hope she's okay and that no one stole her or did anything to her... Wondering what's happening, where she is and if she's getting enough to eat and drink on these hot days is really getting to me. I woke up with panic attacks every four hours. Finally at 8am, I just got up and started wandering around in the woods. Then did as you did, fullofbooks, and sat on the porch and cried. My fiance is being so much more proactive. He called the police department and now he's going to the grocery store to put up another flier. Today I'm just too exhausted to be strong, I think...

(((hugs firefly))) my cat Elgin went missing for almost a week. he showed up all fizzed up and freaked out. we figure he got treed and he had to wait out his tormentor and then it took him awhile to climb down out the tree and come home. to this day he's not really thrilled about going outside. and then there was Wesley who really had my knickers in a knot because he was on life preserving medication and was gone for 4 days. i thought for sure he was dead. oh how i wept! and then i looked out my window and there the little fucker was preening himself on the porch rail. he was simultaneously scolded and smothered with affection. he seemed totally puzzeled by all the fuss.

How long has it been now? I also wandered around with a flashlight before retreating to the porch...but I'm sending you positive energy and I really think you'll get a happy ending. And it will be overwhelming and wonderful. /hug

What an adorable cat...I am honestly keeping her in my thoughts. I know how important pets are, they are literally family. I am keeping her name and now her face in my thoughts. Let us know when she comes home yeah?

I feel bad and hope you find it but calling the police department is just ridiculous

It wasn't my idea, and normally I'd agree, but it's not like they don't have five seconds to spare to take down a description in case someone brings it in. Perspective. To some people, an animal is an animal. For a long time, she was my constant companion in a place where I had few allies, let alone friends. She's kind of important to me. I wasn't about to scold him for doing it, though I admit even I thought it was kind of excessive. It made me smile, anyway.

Hey, it can't hurt and if it made him feel better and you smile it was worth it.

People report lost wallets, why not a cat?
You can cancel your credit cards, but not your feelings!!!
Jk, lol, I'm not quite that dramatic... In the vicinity, but just not quite. :p

up here people would call the animal control place in case someone called or turned in a stray...maybe put a notice up on the bulletin boards in local supermarket and corner store/gas station..I live in a small town though so maybe its different

the police would probably hang up on someone calling them over a missing pet

I've never called the police over a missing pet but I can't see the harm. I get pretty damn emotional over missing pets.
