My apartment was having the windows washed and they had removed the screens the day before, I forgot that they wanted the windows all shut and I've had them opened to keep the place cool. I'm on the 9th floor. On Monday I woke up to someone asking if anyone was there and it sounded like they were in my apartment, I jumped up kinda freaked out, put on my robe and see this guy by my window and he asked me if I could close it so he can wash it. I have this kind of old cat that usually isn't that crazy, but when I walked towards the window to shut it she just flipped out, dashed up the couch which has its back against the window and jumped out. I was in shock and very upset, also very concerned with how my wife would react since its more her cat then mine. The window washer guy didn't say anything but "oh shit!", I can't blame him for not trying to grab the cat since he was startled he just grabbed one of the bars oh his lift and actually moved out of the way. If that isn't fucked up and trippy enough for you when we looked down there was no cat down there. And no dumpster or hole she could have fallen into. We had heard some noise that might have been a thump but there was no blood or anything either. It's just a parking lot across from another building and a parking garage back there. Today I was going down to get my mail and the apartment manager asked me "hey, did you guys cat get out of your apartment?" which confused me all sorts of ways, it turned out the maintenance guy was installing carpet in an apartment 2 floors down and found our cat in there. He figured it had sneaked in while he had left the door open. She had the cat in her office and she appeared uninjured. I was very happy to see the cat was alive but shocked as well and along with the gut wrenching horror of the cat jumping out the window in the first place, totally mind fucked. The cat is cleaning herself on my couch now, I still don't know why or how the hell she jumped out the window like that or how she cleared the window washer's platform and made it back to the window, if thats indeed how she got there.
This reminds me of Pet Semetary. Crazy. But in the end its good the cat is ok. I know I would feel a little creeped out being around her now after seeing that happen. LOL
Check out this cat: NYC cat survives a 20-story fall http://www.phillyburbs.com/lifestyl...cle_5f03d800-ae25-11e0-8ff8-0019bb30f31a.html
In cases like that story ^, it's incredibly important to remember a cat can and will squeeze through anything it can get its head in. If it can get its head in, it will squeeze the rest of its body through come hell or high water. I've seen it waaaay too many times. So if you don't want kitty taking a flying leap from a 20 story window, make sure you crack the window smaller than kitty's head. lol
Did you know that, apparently, if you wish to injure a cat using the gravitational method then you must see to it that the cat falls from between the 4th and 7th floors of a building? Statistics show that this range of distance from the ground is by far the most likely to injure or kill our feline friends. The theory goes that the cat is travelling at a speed which causes it to become confused with how it should react. Any lower than the 4th floor, and they simply land on their feet; any higher than the 7th floor, and they spread their weight, ready for impact. Remember, kids: 4th-7th floor. M E E E E O O O O o o o o .... *thump* mreeoooooow
Most cats are pretty nimble creatures. My cat wouldn't have survived that fall...he isn't a very majestic being...when he jumps off something, it sounds like an earthquake.
