I think I've caught the Republicans at a blatant: The number of cancer cases in Fort Chipewyan is higher than expected, according to a report from Alberta Health Services released Friday. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2009/02/06/edm-fort-chip-cancer.html 'There is currently no credible evidence of environmental contaminent exposures from oil sands reaching Fort Chipewyan at levels expected to cause human cancer rates.' (9) http://republicans.energycommerce.house.gov/Media/file/Hearings/Energy/021011_Middle_East/Mar.pdf The reference given, I am not trying to mislead, is to the article quoted here: 10.2.2.1 Incidence Rates For Cancer Age-standardised incidence rates for all cancers, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, female breast cancer, and prostrate cancer are presented for each of Alberta's nine health regions in a yearly report by the Alberta Cancer board. However, it is important to note that these are three-year averages. The 2007 report shows rates of incidence for all cancer lower than or equal to the provincial average except for prostrate cancer which was higher in Northern Lights. (ACB 2007) http://www.rsc.ca/documents/expert/RSC report complete secured 9Mb.pdf There appears to be either not such quote or I can't find it, even with the help of search at the top of the page, and any likely page in the contents. If you read the section on the water and the fish.. it appears to me the Republican document is consiparatoral.
I have been looking for more facts on the tar sands. I came across this one website but am unsure on the legitamacy of it. http://oilsandstruth.org/ Now i'm sure there is a lot of truth. And I already know quite a bit. Just wondering about the whole site itself and how factual everything is. And if anyone has more links then that would be great!
