Some arsehole rang me pretending to be Microsoft. ANyway sounded all legit with waiting room noises. He was instructing me to go through all of these folders where there were so called errors that are damaging my hardware. He eventually took me to this website called logmein123.com. Where he supplied with a code to login. That then allowed his 'technician' to use my mouse and control the computer. He was then instructing me to dowload this software that supposedly fixes all of my errors and shit. Anyway at this point I finally clicked and tried to get some sort of legitimacy out of the ****. He then put me onto a so caled 'manager'. Who said he'll call back in half hour when my parents are home. He then told me not to touch get out of any of the shit I had logged into aka allowing them to control the computer. Yeah right, I got out of all the shit once I got of the phone. Now Im paranoid as fuck thinking they might have shit or stilll in control somehow :(

The three things that give it away were first of all there was no waiting room music, the software was not microsfot, they failed to prove they were from Microsoft and plus the motherfucker was comenting on my background which me as a baby wiith my grandpa. Fuck I am so angry ahhhhhhhh I wish I had of abused the pieces of shit. Do I have anything to worry about still? Should I get a real technician to look at it?

In retrospct I look like an idiot but at the time it seemed so legit.

    Scan your system with as many anti-virus and anti malware products you can. I recommend starting with Malwarebytes;
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

No software is capable of damaging your hardware, ain't gonna happen, so right there you should know it was bullshit.
Also in almost 20 years I have NEVER heard of Microsloth calling someone out of the blue to help with a computer problem.

Logmein123.com is a legit site/company. It appears that they used/have an account with them and used it to gain access to your system. Maybe you should contact logmein123.com and explain what happened. I'm sure they would be interested if their service was being misappropriated to facilitate hacking into peoples systems. They were most likely fishing for personal info.

Scan your system completely to be certain they didn't install anything.

I Have Been Copping This At Least Three Times A Week For Two Months...[IMG].

It Comes Up As A "Private Overseas Call", And The Caller Is Nearly Always "Agnes".

Soon As I Hear The Sound Of Her Phone Line I Pull My Puuuter Plug Out.

She Usually Tells Me My Puuuter Has Sent Microsoft An Error Message And She Has

The Genuine Microsoft Program To Fix It.

I Ask How She Could Know This, When I DON'T OWN A BLOODY PUUUTER.

She Then She Says Sorry Sir And Hangs Up.

The Old Bag Called Me Yesterday And I Told Her To Stop Wasting

Australians Time Because There Had Been Articles In All Major Newspapers

    Saying This Was A Scam...[IMG].

They Ask You to Type In Some Digits To Fix Your Error Message, And This Gives

Them Control Over Your Puuuter To Send Out Spam Or Even Child Porn,

And All You Notice Is Your Puuuter Is Running A Bit Slow...:(.

The Old Hag Hasn't Rung Me Yet Today...[IMG].

    Cheers Glen.

DONT ABUSE HER/HIM, Just Make Your Point Clearly And Reasonably Politely.

There Was A Newspaper Article About 3 Years Ago About Telemarketers And

People Like Agnes, The Headline Read....WE KNOW YOUR NAME AND NUMBER, AND

    WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE...

I Tried To Ask Her Yesterday Why, If They Are So Puuuter Literate, That

After Being Told Umpteen Dozen Times I Dont Own A Puuuter Why She Couldn't Remove

My Number From HER Puuuter, But Unfortunatly The Phone Line Is So Bad

That When I Speak We Have To Wait Whilst My Words Are Repeated Back,

Very Much Like Overseas Calls Years Ago Using Undersea Cables.

I'll Let You Know If The Old Hag Rings Back Again, But When I Told Her I Knew About The Scam

She Got Quite Upset And Said She Could Prove Her Program And Indeed Her, Were The Genuine Article.

Once Again I Told Her I DO NOT OWN A PUUTER...[IMG].

    Cheers Glen.

If it is someone actually from Microsoft, they would not have to use some third party company like Logmein123.com to gain access to your system, that functionality is already built in to windows and has been since XP. All the big name PC manufacturers use it.
The reason why they are using Logmein123.com is because they provide a service that allows you to access and control a computer remotely in situations that where that function is not enabled on the remote system. If you have someplace like Dell or MS do it, they will instruct you on how to enable the function already there.
Logmein123 does it by creating a shared VPN network connection or something along those lines and then launching their software. That is why they tell you a code to enter, that code connects you to that network that is part of their account.
Really you should contact Logmein123.com and let them know about it.

Alert the authorities, to start with. You may have to format your computer, even antivirus software might not save you now.

I heard there is software that can damage your PC by overriding your hardware's temperature gauges, telling the system they are reasonably cold while opening multiple applications in the background to get it to work itself up dangerously high levels of heat. I doubt that this really exists, I just remember hearing it. More likely they are trying to harvest information like banking details, log-ins and passwords than damage your system. They could have managed to install any number of key-loggers and the like, many of which are too up to date for all the anti-virus software or take advantage of zero-days, making them extremely tricky, which is why you ,ay need to format.

Let this be a lesson, question everything, especially when it's someone you don't know on the phone.

Also, tell your parents or anyone that uses that computer, if you stay hush and they are tapping their bank details in unawares then YOU are at fault, mister.

In order to do that then they would have to hack the motherboard BIOS, not impossible, but not easy either. Modern motherboards will shutdown the system before cpu core temps or voltages get to the point of damage.

The only virus I can think of that could cause physical damage to hardware was long ago when MFM and RLL harddrives were used. Due to how the drive geometry was and how the controllers mapped the drives, it was possible to tell the controller to move the read/write heads to an area that did not physically exist. What resulted was the armature would slam into the center spindle. With the advent of IDE drives and the associated drive controllers, that was no longer possible. Virus's 20 years ago were much nastier in terms of destroying data, today they are written to function in stealth mode to gather info or hijack a machine as a spam bot.

One of the nastiest ones was a virus called OneHalf. Everything would be fine until you rebooted the machine, then it would wipe half of the available partition and make it smaller. Every time you rebooted it would do it, so your drive would go from say 50megabytes to 25 to 12.5 and so on, hence the name OneHalf.

Another was Natas. (yes, Satan backwards) It would simply write the string NATAS into EVERY file as it was accessed, rendering the file corrupt and continue to do so until the machine was useless.
Both were also written to leave the boot sector and OS alone so you didn't realize there was a problem until you couldn't access your files any longer. I remember servicing one ladies PC that had the NATAS virus and when I scanned it EVERY file on her drive was corrupted except for the DOS and Windows files needed to boot the system and run Windows.

Your first words to them should have been, "F&*K off" followed by hanging up.
