They were in 2009 when I lived on a small island off the coast of Canada. It was on a small, isolated organic farm that was totally off the grid and pretty much self sufficient. It was an amazingly carefree existence, there being no need for money or any of the other modern ''conveniences''. The nearest thing to an annoyance would be when the local beavers would dam up the creek, preventing the water flowing to the hydro system and reducing our electricity from a few hours a day to no hours a day. I'm not doing it anymore because my Canadian visa ran out and I'm back in the UK ...but I have a longing to get back there sometime
