I taught elementary school for nearly 30 years, mostly 5th grade. It happens from time to time that I hear from a student of mine from years ago. They're grown up now, of course, and leading their lives in as many different directions as there are stars in the sky. I'm incredibly flattered that they remember me, and when they take the time to write or email. Just today, for instance, I got an email from a young man who was somewhat of a behavior problem when he was in my classroom. His name was Chuck and he challenged me on everything ... he nearly wore me out trying to answer his challenges as to why I was doing something the way I was, or why I wanted him to do something for me. Today, Chuck is corporate vice-president of a software company, probably making more money in a year than I made in my entire teaching career .. lol. But more importantly, he wrote to tell me that, appearances to the contrary, he loved his 5th-grade year and he loved the time he spent with me. Sooooooo .... I'm not walking on a cloud or anything this afternoon ... lol So who else has a teacher they particularly remember? Tell us about them
I had a teacher that I particularly remember, but not really for good reasons. Her name was Ms. Maryott and she was the biggest bitch in the history of history of teachers that I've had. She was my 7th grade math teacher and all she could do was scream at us and tell us how much of a "friggen' headache" we were giving her. She constantly reminded us about how we could never do anything right and how much her two boys (who were our age but went to a different school district) were so much more advanced than we were and she couldn't understand why we couldn't do anything up to her standards. She would get pissed when we would all fail quizzes/tests (which was often) and throw her hands up in the air in frustration and call us idiots. Another thing she used to do, that I personally believe a teacher should never do, was call us out individually. If a teacher is having a student, the teacher should pull them aside after class and speak with them. There was an instance where she called a classmate of mine out for being 'so stupid' for having possibly achieved the worst grade she'd ever seen someone actually 'try' for. I don't how on earth she could have possibly remained a teacher, but I know that after that she ruined math for me and I'll never forget her.
Your profile says you're 19, which means this was six or seven years ago. Furthermore, you've presumably graduated from high school, so you're considered an adult now. How sad that you still harbor such resentment and hold such poison inside you. Your screen name is quite appropriate, apparently.
I remember many of my teachers, some were excellent, others not so much. My English teacher, a real no-nonsense type was inspirational and conveyed her love of the written word to so many. Of course Mr Hiddleston who taught art. He kept us enthralled with his stories of "the war", greatly exaggerated no doubt. He passed on last year, but whenever we met in the street we'd chat. It amused and pleased him greatly that past pupils, although now adults would still address him as 'sir'. We respected our teachers, not sure there's much respect left in schools nowadays.
How sad for you to be offended by me answering your question. Yes, I harbor resentment towards that bitch, and almost every other teacher I've ever had. School was nothing but a horrible experience for me, and if that bothers you, than that is most unfortunate. It seems to me that you probably agree with everything the teacher I've mentioned does and if I was one of your students, I probably would have called you a fucking **** and told you to go fuck yourself because you're nothing but a piece of shit as I have done to so many teachers before you.
school sucked for me too... one of my teachers died last year and I seriously considered going to the funeral just to make sure that job needs dedicated and special people to do right...unfortunately for me I didnt have any of the good ones
I had some outstanding teachers that still make me smile. Words of encouragement they gave, understanding the confusion that comes with the growing years. I appreciate that. Of course there were teachers who shouldn't have been let loose near a kid but I survived those as well. A few of the best genuinely helped shape my life. Although I'm not a teacher I have been active in the lives of several kids. Sometimes they seek me out and thank me for being there for them. Thats a great feeling to know that what I did mattered to them...helped in some way. Good for you Granny, I hope you have many more of your old students seek you out.
Ive been approached by a few of the students that went to college with me and they thanked me for teaching them more than the actual teacher did ..that is a great feeling
I'm 60 now so I was in grade school a long time ago. Our school was an old 4 room school house that had an extra 4 rooms added in the late fifties. It had mostly "old school" teachers in it. Now old school in those days was old school. You did your work and behaved, or else. Students were always "called out" as one poster put it. If you talked out in class you got paddled. Run in the hall, paddled, etc. Mrs. M. would call you to the blackboard to do math problems, where she would stand with a paddle, get it wrong and she'd point to your head and say, "Can't put it in there, we'll put it in here...WHACK!" It was great! A real motivational tool! Mrs. B made me walk home one day to get my clarinet when I forgot it, it was only a mile and a half one way on a four lane highway. I had another teacher there, can't remember her name, who had all kind of trouble with one little dude. Paddling didn't work so one day she took him to the back of the room and told the class not to look. Then she pulled down his pants and beat his bare behind! that worked. It was a great school, we didn't have any law suits, suicides, weapons violations, or attacks on students or teachers. Those old teachers were loco parentis (the lawful local parent) and knew it. No bullshit like today's schools. How I miss that place, I'd go back in a minute.
Had a home room teacher in my graduating year, taught us history. 1970 Spent about 10 minutes covering history and the rest of the time telling us stories about when he was a travelling justice of the peace. Don't get me wrong, we did absorb the material or he would have been pissed and you didn't want him pissed at you. He got wind that my friends and I were making wine at home. He got permission from our parents and took us to his place for supper with his wife. He gave us a tour of his wine making space, gave us a few tips then proceeded to open about 10 different types of home made wine, from canned apple juice to dandelion and provided us a great meal. He enjoyed getting uber gunned with us. Mr. Max Matthews (RIP), a fine man.
You're pretty brave behind that keyboard, aren't you, boy? Feel like a big man now, coming down on a 64-year-old woman? Where did you learn your manners, in a slop bucket? You're not good enough for a teacher like her. She feels sorry for you, but I don't. You're lucky you're not in my classroom. I'd slap the mouth clean off your punk face.
she (Seizedbyanger) is a lady..and she was talking about her own experiences with her own teachers you must have been a teacher too right?...from your attitude you sure sound like one teachers are always "so much better than every one else"
met a teacher yesterday and she reminded me of this thread she was pissed off because an older lady had innadvertently butted in line at the grocery store...so she backed up without even looking and butted in front of me (I was in a different line) this teacher is a friend of my moms so I didnt say anything typical teacher attitude...and then when she sees me she starts talking about how "tired she is"...it had only been 3 days of school by thursday...I told her she should be tired at her age..stupid **** is past retirement and teachers have one of the best pensions around here...but they still stay to corrupt the minds of the youth and stop the new recruits from taking their places im amazed at the number of schoolmates I have that chose teaching as a profession...and I know the ones who did will be good ones ..there is hope I love this video...about 10 of the views are me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCkp8CWboNE"]Cop Smacks Abusive Teacher In The Face - YouTube
