Has anyone read any of his stuff? If so, what books?

I'm currently reading The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, and I have to say, it's probably going to be one of my favourite books I have ever read. The way it's written has totally shocked me with awe.

I read The Sound of Waves, the Spanish version, and it was like... wow! what a great love story! I began reading The Sailor... but it didn't hook me... now I'm on Jack Kerouac's On The Road final pages.

This one is semi-autobiographical and is about his growing awareness of his homosexuality and also hints at his predilication towards violence. I think it speaks to a lot of the trauma for anyone in their teen years and growing self-awareness but really opens your eyes to the pressures on someone that society may consider "deviant". If you interested in the man Mishima, it is a must-read.

I am reading his short stories now. Probably my favorite 20th century writer. Does anyone know of a current writer influenced by him?

I love Yukio Mishima! The books of his that I've read are Confessions of a Mask, the Sound of Waves, The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea, and Forbidden Colours. I find his works to be so fascinating and beautiful and of course he has to be one of the best 20th century writers, though it seems to me that he is often overlooked, which is very unfortunate. That being said, my brother also read The Sailor Who Feel From Grace With the Sea when he was about 16, but for the IB program. I think the ending of that book both traumatized us a bit lol. Forbidden Colours is my favourite book of his that I've read so far, if not in my top five favourite books.
To Cherea, Christopher Isherwood is quoted on the back of my copy of Confessions of a Mask but I don't really think he was directly influenced by Mishima (I don't know too much about him)... He is still a good writer to check out though lol
