LOL, i've seen way more middle-aged goths around over the years, than middle-aged dread-heads ... and to add, i bet you that half of the middle-aged dreadheads out there are goths

I have found more ignorant people! -

"If you're dining in a restaurant and both the cook and your waiter have dreadlocks, does it bother you? Think of the trash and filth that could fall onto your food or plate! I think dreadlocks are disgusting. I have excused myself and left several restaurants because the help had dreadlocks. At one of the bowl games a journalist was interviewing a football player. He asked the player about his hair. The player told the interviewer that he hadn't cut or washed his hair in five years. The other members of the staff laughed, but I thought it was disgusting. Imagine the filth, lice and mites that reside in that hair. Maybe they use insecticides. I don't know. I'm ignorant about this type of hair. I don't get too close for fear that some insects might jump on me; but it looks like they have some kind of grease on there. Someone tell me. I would be embarrassed to admit that I hadn't bathed or washed my hair in five days. But five years! Come on!"

A dreadhead replied to this, saying -

"You really should have an option for people who can look past outward appearances., not just ignorant shallow options. I just want to say first off that the football player did not go for 5 years with out washing his hair. When you don't wash your hair it gets grease, grease causes knots to fall out. Therefore if you do not wash your hair, your dreads will feel. I have had dreads for almost a year now and I would be willing to bet that my hair is by far cleaner than any of yours. I take amazing care of my dreads. Just because you are completely ignorant on a subject doesn't by any mean give you the right by any means judge anyone. I don't put any extra product in my dreads (i.e. gel, hairspray, mousse, condition.) All of those products that you use leave behind residue in your. Whats your excuse for being dirty? I just think that you really should think about how judging someone based on their appearance shows just how shallow you truly are. "

Alas, there were other comments on this. -

"I don't want hair all over my food,And its is nasty they don't take them out for mos,So where is clean?"

"I agree they're all disgusting. The football player that was on TV clearly stated he hadn't washed or cut his hair for five years. The crew in the booth were all laughing and made comments concerning this young man! His hair was so long it would be hanging down in your plate. Nasty looking to me!"

ignorant close minded people are everywhere, but there are also people that are really interested in knowing and learning about different things. They are the ones we should care about, not those everything-different-is-evil dumbasses

I know. People have the time to rant about things for ages, but they don't have the time to actually learn about it.

    "WARNING: My opinion alert: Opinion:

Dreadlocks are disgusting. I always automatically assume the person is either:

    a) unhygienic and cant be arsed to wash their hair
    b) weird
    c) both

Its also really bad for your hair cos its just not meant to be that way."

    "Dreadlocks look greasy and disgusting."

"It involves being unhygenic for a sustained period of time."

People are always going to be a bit weary of dread heads and have the wrong opinion it's up to us to educate people we meet along the way that we (well most of us) care for our hair and look after it. When I had my first set, the shoe was on the other foot, I hardly washed it, put 100% beeswax in to it and I'll admit they were disgusting !!!!

After getting infested with lice constantly (had a lot of student friends a the time) I cut them off and did some research on how to keep them away using tea tree etc which led me to forums such as this and learnt not to put crap in your hair and to keep it clean, so even dreadheads can be ignorant to the fact you need to keep your hair clean.and what shampoos to use etc.

So I don't blame people who think of us that we don't wash our hair and that they are infested with all sorts when a small minority of us are.

I've had a few rely good jobs with long dreads and they have been quite tolerant of them, people ask question out of curiosity and I've answered them. I feel happy that I've changed the opinions of a handful of people, just hope they spread what they have learnt.

I recently moved to a resort community and frequently get compliments on my dreads. This place is visited by many Texans and I've had not one problem with them. They're friendly with me and I do the same. I answer their questions with no problems. The problem I'm having is these fancy corporations taking over ski areas. They do not allow dreads at this ski area at all. I was even offered a free season ski pass by the snowboard team here in exchange for my volunteer time and was turned down by the resort because I had dreads. So, I still put in more volunteer time than any other parent while using my thousand dollar ski pass to get it done. Sorry for the complaints, I'm just upset about this. I've looked forward to moving back to a resort/hippie town for nearly 20 years and I still can't find work in this town after 9 months. It's a good thing my wife is clean cut, at least one of us can find work. In the meantime, I'm enjoying being a stay home dad.

    I love people like that.

You get so much extra room in the elevator.

And their expressions are funny as hell. They're usually so busy staring at your hair they don't notice you staring at their face.

I better cut these off and get my ass to the nursing home, stat.

The worst thing in the world is running into a person who has dreads and they think crazy stuff about them. I ran into this woman in my town about three years ago, and she had just backcombed a set. She'd used wax and wasn't washing and constantly had a scarf over them. I gave her some unsolicited, but gentle, advice, in a "do what you want, but I've found that this works," kind of way.

I ran into her again just a couple weeks ago, in a waiting room. Still coated in wax, washing once every three months, going to the beauty school for maintenance where they wax them, palm roll them, rubber band the ends and advise her to get a silk pillow case and keep her dreads pulled back as much as possible, because otherwise they'll fall apart. The dreads look no different than the day I saw her three years ago.

She told me that I should do the same thing. I should rubberband my dreads, I should use a lot of wax, I can go to the beauty school and they only charge 18$ an hour to work on them, etc. etc. "That's why you have so much loose hair, and you're not going to be able to control the size and shape of your dreads." Once she said that, I just smodded my way through the rest of the conversation. I have a lot of loose hair because it hasn't locked yet. I can control the size of my dreads by ripping them apart every now and then. But nothing I was going to say would convince her that she didn't need to be giving the idiots at the beauty college her money for "maintenance" and product.

As she was going on about how she never washes her hair, people looked visibly uncomfortable, so I said, "Really? I wash mine every day." I hoped everyone heard it, because I really don't want that myth perpetuated in our small town.

Those are some special quotes. Anyone want to lay money that with words like "the help" and the assumption that if the football player wasn't playing football, he'd be serving them their food, that this was a white person talking about black people in general and using dreads as a cover?

Lol'd. I'm not taking them seriously. I'm just pointing out, how many people stereotype dreads, when they don't educate themselves on the subject.

    Kthanks :3

btw, only a few posts were answer from Yahoo Answers. :)
