Well, I'm obviously pretty new to this forum. Have been lurking around for about a week though, so thought i'd introduce myself and my new dreadlocks. Couple of years ago I had my dreadlocks made at a salon. I was told to root flip and wax A LOT - which I did. It ended up pretty nasty so I combed them out. Decided for at second try and now it's been like two weeks since I backcombed. Didn't know about this forum before so I started out root flipping for the first week or so, but now I've decided not to touch them and just to let them be frizzy and lovely - seems to be the overall attitude here anyway? They've started making loops and tightening up so I'm pretty happy Dreadlocks are not very common in Denmark though, but basically everybody thinks they're supposed to be waxed, so there's loads of people telling me that my dreadlocks are wrong (whatever that's supposed to mean) and that I have to wax. Anyway, what you've all been waiting for: PICS! Before (nevermind my face, I was pretty wasted at that point)
yay! you know, they are so young, you could probably reverse the root flips if they bother you that bad. before i found this forum i talked to a girl that swore by root flipping. she did it to keep her roots "tight" and would unflip them after a few months which is lame bc it killed her progress. good idea to just leave em alone though.
All you have to do is stop brushing and wash your hair when it needs to be washed. My hair is knotting up at the top and around the sides where it's longer.
Thanks everybody I'm not sure how to explain that in english, but basically you just pull your dread through the root of itself. it tightens up the loose part, but it will look a little bit like a braid instead of a real dreadlock /:
http://www.dreadheadhq.com/make_dreadlocks_maintain_crocheting.php Scroll down to "old school" or something. I've done it before (on my last set) when an otherwise tight root has a rogue loop poking out. But yeah, if you do it more than very very rarely they're gonna look like braids for a long time
you look like a person im going to be jealous of because youre pretty and your dreads are ace already
well. it's been about two months and my head is a birds nest but anyway, i decided to get a sidecut today:
