Hey guys, i got a couple questions, first i was whonderin if there was any way i could get my username changed, i find my other username i use on sites "Optimystic" better, if i cant change it no biggy its just a name, i was just gonna Private message 1 of the 2 moderators that question but when i clicked Luxie and Zillas accounts i couldnt find the PM the only thing i could find was send a msn message lol..

but onto the important questions, im rockin the natty dreads so i have quite a bit of loose hairs longer than 5 inches was whonderin whats a good way to make it look tidy for work because i tie my dreads back like a pony tail but all the loose hairs around my temple and the back of my neck just hang there, and i dont want to use a crochet hook to crochet them in because i dont like to poke my dreads i like them growing naturally, ive tried to just tie the loose hairs around the dreads but the loose hair unravels from it pretty quick.

and my final question is, what do you guys do when sleeping for your dreads, when i just go to sleep normally without covering my dreads with anything i wake up with a crazy lookin bedhead lol, ive tried flipping a shirt over my head so my dreads are inside the shirt and going to bed but wake up and still got the bed head, currently im using my tam it helps keep my hairs from gettin all frizzy and lookin bad but in the summer its just too hot to sleep with my tam on.

i know theres no way i can completely dread all the loose hairs and im fine with that, i just got so much of them atm tho its kinda annoying lol, and i know they will dread up over time im just lookin for a way to make it look neater for the time being
    thanks for any advice:sifone:

    Plait the loose hairs?
I just sleep with a pillow, wrapped in a wool blanket, works for me.

Here's an image on how to do it -

Most people who put things over their pillows, usually use a wool scarf or a wool item of clothing, but I just use a blanket. It helps really. In my opinion they get knottier, due to the texture of wool rubbing against them

I suggest finding out if you can wear a headband or something at work. Or I'm sure you could rock a skinny headband in addition to your ponytail. I often rock one of these:

All my efforts to control my loosies have failed- sewing and crocheting fall out. I'm going to go for the wool-rub this time. Just get a wooly something (hat, jumper, sheep) and rub it all over the affected areas for a while and it'll feel tighter ^^ I'm gonna see if this will actually lock up hair ^^ Another one of dragonvine's experiments

Loving it :D Have this image of you running around the field trying to rub your head against sheep... Priceless!

Headbands work for me if it gets really bad, normally I just try to make sure that after washing I 'brush' the loose hair in between the dreads - with me fingers, when towel drying/blow drying. The longer strands get tangled and stay there for a while, the short ones get all curly and I can't do much about them...

You cannot PM people until you make a certain number of posts. I'm also pretty sure you cannot edit your username.

Loose hairs are part of the process. Learn to love em. They won't go away unless you poke your hair with a hook every single day...which is lame.

I sometimes braid the loosies around my hair line, which is what someone else suggested. Also, headbands are usually a nice item to keep around.

When I first started mine, I'd put them in a stocking cap when I slept or needed them out of my way. Just buy tights (black), tie the legs together, try it on to ensure fit, cut the legs off, voila, stocking cap. You can turn the legs into headbands by tying the ends together.

Some of those loose hairs may lock up. Some may not. You may get more. Some might go away. Get used to it.

Thanks for all the help everyone, when i get free time im usually too lazy to try the Plaiting technique, i was talkin with another natty dread and he said he rolls his loose hairs into a ball and shoves it into root of the nearest dread, i may also try that and see how it works lol.

and Vigalante i never said i didnt love my loose hairs :p, i was just tryin to say they STAND OUT at work and the boss doesnt really like it, im not gonna cut my hair so i was just lookin for alternatives to hide em/tuck em away. and i am used to em, after all before dreads all i had was a headfull of loose wavy skater hair ^.^ idk y but you come off as woman with sum pent up anger, kinda makes me hot for u ;)

Only sort of understood the questions, but...

Tieing back your hair will keep loose hair from ever locking.

Eventually the loose hair will form a second generation of locks, if you don't crochet it. Other than that, all you can do is the same stuff you would to encourage locking in the first place, like, if you're so inclined, wool rubbing, wool pillow cases, wool hats, lots of movement/friction, sea water, etc.
