    1. You're a very silly person if you still have a Facebook account.
    2. You're just a dummy if you're uploading photos of yourself to the Internet.
    3. If you're a parent and you're allowing your children to have a Facebook account or upload photos. Then you're being negligent in your responsibilities as a parent. If you wouldn't let your child watch porn, drive a car without a license or play with guns. Then you shouldn't allow them to use the Internet unsupervised.

the facial recognition software can actually be a lot of fun to mess with. for anyone who does have a Facebook, if you tag yourself as animals or random inanimate objects, and then use auto tag, its quite funny what you can end up being tagged as ^_^

People just willingly give up their rights to privacy so quickly lately. Just one more little probe in your ass and you will be full screen for the world.

Meh, just use facebook with care, and I don't think it does much harm. I put photos up there so my friends and family can see how awesome my life is, and apart from that I just use it so I don't have to keep a long list of e-mail addresses.

And what's the problem with uploading photos of yourself on the Internet? The only issue I have with uploading photos to Facebook is that after doing it, they have the rights to those photos.

    Oh god.

I hate this shit that lets OTHERS pull you into social networking.

I have a facebook........ right now it has NO pictures, altho I'll change that soon.

But I don't like this shit at all. I'm very photo-shy, mostly for this reason. thank you for posting this, I realized I need to ask the few people who have pictures of me NOT to associate my name with my face on facebook.

Probably too late, the CIA has my facial features and iris images from people tagging my photos. fucking awesome.

If you've ever travelled through an international airport, they already have your photo and all the information they could want, including, with increasing frequency, biometric information (finger prints.) That concerns me more than facebook.

The same is true if you have a driver's license, passport, or maybe even a library card.

The tagging of others thing is disconcerting, I agree. Isn't there a case somewhere disputing the legality of Facebook allowing others to tag you in a photo? Pretty sure I read about that...

Exactly.. People are freaking the fuck out because the CIA knows what they look like, when really they've had photos cataloged since you were 16.

Facebook is fine.. There is no privacy, but I could care less if the government knows that I went to Florida last week. (which they probably know anyway since I used an ATM card). I'm also ok with it being cataloged into CIA files that I listen to pink floyd and like the movie silence of the lambs.

Just don't post anything on facebook that you aren't ok with everyone knowing..

What they need is some cock recognition software, hardware whatever.. but for those dicks that hide behind a cock picture..

actually, I think this is one of the most disturbing aspects of watching people's online doings.

People are routinely turned down from jobs and the like because of online photos of them nude.

The photos are in appropriate places, etc, but the fact that they exhibit human sexual behavior still makes them okay to turn down..... Okay, does having a girl/boyfriend make them un-hirable too? Humans are sexual animals, and in the digital age, that will carry over onto the internet.

And, as I can tell you first hand, there's so many people with the same name on the internet, if someone targeting you looks for your name, they can find all sorts of things and say it was you.... I have an uncommon name, and had a search warrant issued based totally on carefully hand-picked coincidental information on the internet. And I didn't have a hope in hell at fighting it, because as I learned, basically all that matters is the cop says they really believed that.

Have you seen how high the resolution is on cameras today? Today's cameras are 10 mega pixel and up. So let's say a tourist in your area snaps a picture with you in the background and he puts it on his blog. Now anyone can grab that photo, drop it into facebook recognition and find your name, address, hobbies, friends, etc.

    Still not a problem?

Let's say you're walking down the street and minding your own business. Some guy with a political agenda asks you to read something he wrote criticizing the war in Iraq. At some point a CCTV camera, a store's local security cam, etc documents you talking to him.

Well, the man is a radical because he is talking out against the government. (All people that talk against the government are considered radicals) And now because you stopped to talk to him, you're being looked into.

No big deal right Because you have nothing to hide...

Everyone has something to hide and it's called a private life. Furthermore if you dig deep enough into anyone's privacy, you will find something that can be used against them. Even if they don't they will find the names of your friends and dig into their lives. Therefore just like the old witch hunts of the past, you may find your best friends making shit up about you in order to save their own asses.

But how likely is a witch hunt to happen?

It happens all the time! A good example is in 1995 in the state of Georgia it was estimated that almost 15% of all criminal investigations could have be considered versions of modern day witch hunts. Law enforcement was being overly aggressive in its duties and most often over misdemeanor events. As a result, victims of this type of law enforcement tactic found themselves being denounced by close family, friends and even in some cases by complete strangers.

In one case a man almost went to jail for 3 years, having confessed to a crime that never occurred.

Now I caution everyone to keep in mind that my discourse sites 1995 and this was before such things like Facebook. I feel that I must point out that United States has the largest prison population in the world, due to our legal system is a "profit producing" entity. And all branches of our law enforcement are paid to produce results.

Don't forget that last year people were locked up for dancing at the Jefferson memorial last year. And I'm sure that the footage of the event has been "tagged." I feel sorry for the tourists in the background.

The chains of our own slavery is forged by our own making,
    one link at a time.

It's this sort of public ignorance that just makes me want to cry.

The CIA doesn't know a damn thing about you. In order for them to have even a photo of you on file, they need to have a judge say they can. The only exception to this is if you've been arrested and convicted of a crime. And then the only photos/information they have on you is as related to that event.

To get ANY information on ANY private citizen.. ALL and ANY branches of law enforcement need to get permission to conduct an investigation. Therefore all your information is personal, private and protected by law.

But all that changes when you publish it.

If the CIA/NSA/FBI or the police can go to Google or Facebook and get your information. Then they can circumnavigate all over-sight.

So what stopped them from being able to go up to your neighbor, take pictures of you having a picnic, accessing your banking information, etc goes out the window when it's put on the web.

It's interesting to note that in law enforcement sales seminars, there is talk about being able to catch potential criminals. It is continuously states a popular statistic about how 3 in every 5 people will be commit some sort of criminal act in their lifetime. And how their products will help them catch potential criminals.

I would be outraged about this but that would go against my programming. I am programmed only to raise one eyebrow and pout when a camera is pointed at me, just like the droves of young girls who came from the same production facility as me. lol I'm liking this on facebook, in fact I'm going to change my status from "lol it should be illegal to be up this early lol" to "lol auto tagging - how cool is that!?!?! lol"

I deleted my account just before I joined this site SHIT NOW THEY KNOW IT'S ME but I had to search pretty hard to find the "delete account" function. And even then you have to activate the correct setting for a complete deletion rather than a suspension of your account. I doubt they really delete the deleted accoutns, anyhow.

AND GET THIS: The other day I made an account for the "Khan Academy" which is an excellent educational resources site but you can only use it using a google or facebook account. So I whipped up a quick google account and WHOOSH... I start getting e-mails from my youtube account which is supposed to have an old, defunct e-mail address... It changed automatically. It's all linked. Add to that that google records your searches and even your surfing and... I am under surveillance whether I like it or not. The thing is, apart from watching a few videos and visiting websites that speak out against the government shit, I'm not actually doing anything of interest and even what I am doing is hardly of note...

********Error************Programming malfunction**********Reverting to basic operational procedure*********

lol no way man that is wkd have u seen ace ventura?

  12. I mentioned Facebook photo recognition a while ago on this site and it wasn't taken particularly seriously. Thank fuck peeps are coming round to believing the idea that yes, it is happening!

As a Facebook account holder, I am aware of the access to one that occurs and to a degree mindful of that which I post, however I've found lost friends, made friends, embraced two relationships and promote and communicate my conviction of conscience.
    > Be it IT, CCTV, or word of mouth - One's reputation is out there - I am what I am and though I may be setting myself up but....
I know that they know me, and I’m there to be shot at (again) though I can't nor wish to stop being the person I am - warts (so to speak) and all
    > I think the biggest danger is not being aware that such intrusion occurs
I am conscious - but never afraid
    :)

I've often asked myself why things never appear to get better in this world. But what is happening in this message section is what people do when confronted by common sense and logic.

They either mock and ridicule or they make excuses.

    In the case of Facebook

They talk about all the long lost friends they found. (If they were good friends why did you loose them to begin with?)

How many relationships they found because of it. (But how many times did you really get physically touched as opposed to a cyber hug)

It lets me keep in contact with my family and friends. (So the address book in your email list was too difficult?)

The dreaded, I have nothing to hide.

The CIA already knows everything about me.

As for the mocking and ridiculing,
I get jokes belittling the situation, called an out of touch old man and sometimes more. All I can say to this is nothing has really changed since the 60s. The games and manipulations perpetrated by the establishment on on the mass public back then are more or less, the same genre of manipulations played today.

In short, if it hadn't been for the hype and the government backing of Facebook. The site would died by now. As it stands its greatest feature is that 70% or more of its users are just men looking for dirty pictures, webcam shows or dirty pictures.

Yes, as was clearly stated on the first page. The problem lies in the fact that

    A) It is automatically on unless you turn it off

    B) You have to hunt through about 3 pages before you can find the right button

    C) There was no announcement via fb when they came out with it

"Iarpa, the intelligence community’s way-out research shop, wants to know where you took that vacation picture over the Fourth of July. It wants to know where you took that snapshot with your friends when you were at that New Year’s Eve party. Oh yeah, and if you happen to be a terrorist and you took a photo with some of your buddies while prepping for a raid, the agency definitely wants to know where you took that picture — and it’s looking for ideas to help figure it out"

Which doesn't mean it isn't being used in the background.

If business could apply that same tactic.. We would be receiving, in the mail, bills everyday for services and goods we never ordered.

Suffice it to say that if the tactic you described was done in the real world instead of the Internet... Facebook would have been slapped down by the legal system. It's not entirely legal and it's definitely something they can be sued over.
