I have no time to prove you the preserved word of God for two reasons

1. there are too many here who do not know God or the Truth
2. you are unwilling to listen to logic and are years beyond my understanding

The problem for me is one of knowledge. Yeah, science doesn't explain everything, yet we look to it for everything. We can't use thought to understand everything, but I don't think we truly understand this. The problem seems to be "too much" of everything - all our talking, writing, arguing is not to find out, but distract us from the fact we don't know. Knowledge is like a disease we can't escape from, but recognizing that is just another form of knowledge. From the statement "I don't know" it doesn't seem there is anywhere to turn because turning anywhere is a function of thought. And turning to religion or scripture is just another form of knowledge.

That's basically it, no point in writing ten paragraphs. It's a simple problem.

 

I was raised in the Catholic church and considering I live in one of the worst bible belts of this nation, my childhood wasn't easy. But as an altar boy and a good catholic I was always taught the doctrine of true faith.

Therefore the only thing I'm going to say about your behavior is this :

John 10:27 : My sheep hear my voice. And I know them, and they follow me.

I'm pretty certain that the King James bible says similar. But what this tells me is that if he wants someone to follow him and be christian, then he'll call them and they'll come. In the meantime I'm sure God doesn't need me to be his door to door salesman. And if he ever does need my help, I'm sure he'll know where can find me.

I have without a doubt a certain self-confidence (perhaps bordering on arrogance) in my intelligence. However I'm not so arrogant as to think that I have all the answers and I'm especially not so arrogant as to believe that I could possibly comprehend the ways of God.

So allow me to pass on some wisdom that Father Norton, the priest that baptized all my children, once said.

"A man with true faith doesn't have to prove his belief to anyone. Whereas a man who doesn't have faith is constantly trying to get others to believe as he does so that he may validate his lack of faith with religious furor."

In conclusion,
I'm neither ignorant nor your brother in any of this heresy. My grandmother used to say, "put it in God's hands." And that's exactly what I'm going to do in this situation. In other words, you're on your own and don't expect any help from me.

You sure make a lot of assumptions. My belief in God is strong as anyone's, close enough to certainty. But my God is not the Abrahamic god - that is a petty deity. I made up my mind on my own, I have read words and books from all religions, as well as atheism, to find what they have in common and to take the best from all. And I have had immensely powerful personal experiences. But we do not need religion to know God, religion only serves to separate mankind.

If you would have said all religions are equally false (or equally true) I would have had far more respect for you. At least you understand God to be pure love. However, if you really read the bible and you believe all of it to be 100% scientific truth, and yet you think this is a loving god, you must have misunderstood something, or you are just picking and choosing, like so many religious fanatics.

It is extremely presumptuous and vain to think so many people are wrong and you are "the one" with the "one true answer". Such certainty only leads to ignorance and blindness.

I would offer you similar advice: Make up your own mind, on your own terms, instead of just adopting someone elses fanatical ideology. Critical thinking is the key. Don't refuse logic and reason, they can coexist very well with God. I doubt you'll take that advice, however, you are set, you "know," no one can change your mind. And I will never subscribe to your (or any) rigid, excluding beliefs. So I'll go back to ignoring you, unless you happen to make sense on occasion.

But I am very glad to know you are not hateful, like so many of your fellow believers.

Excuse me for butting in but I wanted to comment on some of what you said.

This is an illustration that the people Jesus was speaking to were quite familiar. They knew that sheep are not born knowing the voice of the shepherd and that they learn to know and trust his voice over time and only after that shepherd has shown that he can be trusted. So I would say that more than just waiting for Jesus to call you is needed.

Doesn't that make one like the man in the illustration that was given a silver talent and went and buried it? (Matthew 25:14-30)

I think we can someday know God's ways but right now we should still be doing our best to comprehend the ways of God.
