I know there is always a lot of criticism about people learning to tattoo by themselves... however, I am pretty determined to become a professional (somewhat) tattoo artist. I don't want to PAY to apprentice at a shop, just to learn things that I could have taught myself...

I'm not discounting professionals by any means, there are a ton of insider tips and secrets that only a skilled professional can pass along.. Eventually I'd like to get together with some professionals and learn once I'm better, but not in an apprentice sort of fashion.

Do any of you tattoo for a living? Can you give some tips?

Currently have 3 machines, one set up as a liner and two shaders, a cheap power supply and a ton of needles with disposable grips, varying sizes.

Also using diluted Dr. Bronners, as a replacement for green soap. So far its worked well!

Try going into some tatt shop in your area and ask them. If you have a porfolio bring it and show em your work. The only way youll find one that doesnt charge for an apprenticship is by asking. Good luck

Try hard to get an apprentice, if your portfolio is good you'll get one eventually. You really need a sterile environment. "scratchers" dont get much respect in the tattoo industry :-/
