I've adopted these 2 cats, litter mates and together their whole life. A male and female. Without going on too long, they are happy, adjusted to their new home, active, no sign of any real problem. But the male has a thing about hassling the girl, it looks like playing and wrestling and it's not that she doesn't do some of it herself, but it's often just way too aggressive. It's 90% him starting shit and being too rough, 10% her starting a wrestling match and she's more playful. Literally, he smothers her with his body and bites at her neck, until she wriggles free. I'm inclined to just let them be, but...
as long as they aren't hissing or really hurting each other, its just play. Let them be. Especially if they've been together their whole lives-she knows his antics and shenanigans.
I have 2 cats-not litter mates. Both females One cat is much bigger and 5 yrs older. The other cat is still under 1 yr. The same thing-the big cat will go after the little ones neck and appeard to harm the poor thing, but when they break it up-or we break it up-they just look at each other and go their seperate ways. However the little one will sometimes be the aggressor and go after the big ones neck. There is hissing on many occasions by the big one, the little one just ignores her. lol But-they sleep together, and the occasional cute touch of noses which I consider kissing. I've been told if they were really hurting each other or despised each other that they would never hang together, but mine do a decent % of the time. OP-I think your cats will be just fine.
They are just fine. Seriously, just think of the lion cubs you see playing in the wild, they are very aggressive. They are just playing battle tactics, showing off, having fun, that is their entertainment. If they are litter-mates, they are aware of each other.
Seems reasonable... ya, these two sleep together, wash each others faces, they're really cool with each other mostly. I'd like to discourage the overly aggressive behavior, tho I tend to leave critters to do their thing. Ya, maybe I should. Ha. That wouldn't be good. They're bro and sis but both neutered so I doubt it. Thanks you guys. :2thumbsup:
actually none of those arguments are valid. Animals don't have a problem with incest. and it depends what sort of sterilization they got (for example removing a female cat's ovaries will prevent her from having sexual hormones, but other types of sterilization won't).
I didn't mean being littermates would prevent that, was saying that wouldn't be good. And yes, being neutered won't prevent "drive" but it will make it unsuccessful. From previous experiences with cats, I don't think thats his motivation. Tho, a cat-mind is a hard thing to examine
cats, especially brothers and sisters tend to playfight quite often. The male (brother) is probably just playful and likes to dominate his sister. It's totally normal and they do tend get pretty rough with each other sometimes. how old are they?
They are 4 or 5, not exactly positive. And ya, as time has passed I'm more comfortable they are cool. It still goes on daily, and it's still rough sometimes, but taken in context I think I was concerned over nothing. They're still cool with each other all the time so... eh... I'm leavin alone about it. Thanks for the input ! :sunny:
I didn't read any other answers so this could be irrelevant, but I had litter mates. Male/Female. I got them when they were kittens and unfortunately waited too long to get them fixed. I noticed this rough behavior when my female was in heat. Are they fixed?
