What Destro said, plus therapy, and drug treatment, if needed. There certainly IS help for depression, it is very treatable, and there are still VERY safe drugs to HELP treat it. Drugs alone will NOT do it, but often, they are neccesary, in part with good nutrition, fluids and enough sleep and therapy. I've been treated for it. I don't know if I would be here without therapy and Zoloft.
I wish it were that simple. Most clinically depressed people can't even get out of bed and take a shower, changing the world isn't really an option for them until they can function. This may be a good "cure" for angst and lack of emotion, but not REAL clinical depression.
i was just reading a nice article in alive mag (a wonderful canadian health mag) about depression. they list some of the known causes of depression as: environmental (exposure to chemicals that disrupt brain chemistry), nutritional (deficiency of certain vites), situational (stress), and physiological (thwacked out neurotransmitters). in their article they talk about SAMe, and cite multiple double blind type studies that have found that SAMe "is more effective than placebo for relief of symptoms of depression and equivalent to standard therapy for depression", but without the nasty side effects (nausea, loss of appetite, headaches, anxiety and nervousness, insomnia or drowsiness, diarrhea, sweating tremor and reduced sex drive) of the standard tricyclics or SSRI's. food for thought. if you check the website in a couple of months, they'll probably put the article up. http://www.alivemagazine.com/home/i...&site_id=27&article_id=7669&go_id=2&take_id=6
For people who need the easiest way to achive the above I'll do a break down. just to make it a bit more clear HOW easy it is. -Exercise Jog for 15-20 minutes a day, or 20-30 minutes every other day. Alternatly do as many squats, push ups, and sit ups as you can, rest and do it again every day. -Healthy diet (low in sugars, white flower and fats) Lots of fruit veggies and what ever else you agree with eating. This is probably the "hardest" thing on the list, however the best way to go about it is to NOT eat things that are bad. -Ample Water -Keep a cup by your sink in both the bathroom and kitchen, when ever you see it, take a drink. -Someone you can talk to and be heard by When you're depressed, making friends can be very difficult, but couceling, churches, political, sport of hoby groups provide people. People can be spoken to, and the good ones listen. -A stable social structure Start playing DND, it reduces your risk of suicide. Know who your friends are, and let them know you're in a ditch and neeed a hand. Go back to school, or get to know some people at work. If you're wandering around like a hobo, it is hard to have stabillity, but like anything you can choose to create it. -Massage 25$ for a half hour. Cheaper if you have a good friend. So That's my cheap little run down of easier quick things someone could to to make improvements.
True, it's hard to bring about but once you do then it gets better quickly. By the way, you obviously don't have much experience with depression and depressed people do you? Blessings Sebbi
