Ladies, does it bug you when a man (whom isn't your significant other) refers to you as sweetie, or honey, or princess? Does that bother you? It makes my skin crawl. I also hate when a man says, "Hey beautiful." If my boyfriend were to say that, I would love it, but when I have little to no emotional attachment to the guy, it makes me think he's a creep. Maybe I'm just picky or a bitch or something, but I hate pet names from a man I feel nothing towards. What do men call you that makes you want to punch them in the face?
I feel like most relationships develop at least some form of a nickname or pet name at some point. I would get a sour taste in my tongue if I only ever called my significant other by their name all the time.
Yes, my boyfriend has a pet name for me, but if it's from someone I don't know or don't know well, I don't like it. I don't feel like it's a compliment, I feel like they're being condescending.
I dont mind really. There are certain pet names i find ridiculous, but they're in french so i guess they wouldnt mean anything to u.
I'm totally shit with names. I look forward to being old enough where I can call everybody sweetheart. BTW. Would you rather be called "Bitch, Ho, or Chickenhead?" I didn't think so. Stay Brown, Rev J
I've never been called any of those names by men. I have, however, been called all of those and more by many older women. Generally by older women working in a 24 hour diner at 4 in the morning.
Yes, I hate it. I don't see it as a compliment. I have a name - use it. Do not call me sweetie, honey or whatever even when you know I hate it.
suuuper un-hippy attitude. girl, you need to relax. if you dont like it fine, but punching someone in the face? wow. what happened to love...
what about older men and women from east coast of canada who calls you, and everyone else, love? or some southern black folk who call everyone baby? Or mexicans who often use terms of endearment (like amiga, flaka, or bonita) to call your attention when your walking by their market stall? do you also want to punch them for being within their cultural expectations?
Well, this is an interesting point, and I'd like to take it to the next level. I happen to be one of those older guys who treats a lot of the girls who work in the local espresso stands and restaurants like they're my daughters with "sweetie" greetings. Asking "do you hate it" pretty much is soliciting only the negatives, but are there women out there who enjoy the friendly, fatherly greetings?
i dont like honey, cos its to sweet ta be sweet.not mad about sweetie either, but its a step up from honey.i do love babe or baby though.
what i DON'T like is when i ignore wolf whistles, and i always do, they shout out "fucking lesbian!!!" i also ignore when men suck their teeth at me like i'm a pet... it really grates for some reason...
I call friends gorgeous or baby; Mam and senorita sometimes as well. Not strangers/ loose aquaintances though. Although sometimes I'll stick with homegirl or mam if I can't remember a name.
