    Thats Uberzone

I also posted a Roland 303 but it apparently got deleted.

Pendulum, Prodigy, and Infected Mushroom are other examples that come to mind of groups not making music produced on the computer.

Well if you want to get technical I guess almost all music is produced on the computer these days, so I guess Miley Cyrus, Nickelback and Lil Wayne is electronic music too.

I have always taken electro to mean a poppy form of house, more jazzy and influenced by progressive house a lot more appealing to a pop audience than say a purist minimal or tech house audience

electronica is just a catch-all term for stuff thats got some synth in it

techno I take to mean a style of music that is more like the minimal that sprung from detroit techno and goes to acid house and trance and wow all sorts of variations actually

I kind of generalize it all under EDM but I'm relatively new to the scene and I don't really care about what you label it I just really like the music.

Here's my overall take on the whole thing.

It all falls under EDM, even IDM is EDM. Now of course when I say "it all" I don't mean all music, but rather all of this stuff from about the late 70's to present. If it's designed to be spun by a DJ for the dance floor, its EDM. If it's designed first for radio, it's not EDM. Even if it sounds like any one of EDM's genres.

Electronica has most of its influence from New wave or 80's alternative and should not be lumped in w/ techno and its many offshoots.

Techno and House are the 2 main styles when one of things of dance club music, raves, etc... From these 2 most if not all of the other styles stem.

To me electro is electronica that takes influences from house.
To use electro when speaking of techno is way off base.
Techno is harder and darker and heavier on samples where as electro is none of those things.

What you call a style of music should have nothing to do w/ 'when you came into the scene'. Sorry but it's not about you. it's about the history of the music. Techno and house were the 2 main ones that came first and that's why everythig stems from them. Sure before them their was experimental and prog rock of the 70's that got melded w/ aspects of punk, early industrial, disco, etc... But techno and house took all those styles of music in very different directions.

Today's Trance is probably the cheesiest shit out there.
It's music for fist pumping posers, by fist pumping posers who have no clue about where trance's influences were supposed to have come from. And yes, knowing what influencced a particular style of music matters, a lot.

I consider them electronica because their music is so heavy on vocals.

I consider Electro to be 808s and 909's. Like the Electro-funk of the 80's - Bambaataa and Kraftwerk influenced mainly black music.

Techno for me is a specific genre. Derrick May, Laurent Garnier etc. Also detroit techno, a lot of people say Kraftwerk influenced them. The repetitiveness etc and tribal and black influences.

Electronica for me is an umbrella term for Electronic music where a specific subgenre of Electronic music doesn't fit. Say like the french band AIR.

Dance music is also an umbrella term, here in my country usually used by people that wouldn't be too up on their styles of Electronic music.
