_My mother is a vegetarian & it was easy for me to follow her same dietary patterns but it wasn't until about a year & a half ago that decided to make a complete commitment to my dietary choice [I had a couple of chicken slips here & there]

The problem now is that normally first 2 days of my menstrual cycle I have cravings. Anyone has any ideas or solutions on how to ease and/or deal with this cravings?

    Thanks in advance.

Though I have never menstrated in my life, I did have the cravings when I was an early vegetarian. Glad to hear you're vegtarian now!
I am quite sure there are certain veggie foods that will help out during this particular time. I don't know what they are, though. Perhaps a good reference will be a foods encyclopedia.
You can psychologically motivate yourself to get rid of the cravings. Just remember where meat comes from. It was once a living, breathing life form, capabale of feeling pain. And pain was likely the last thing it felt before it ended up on a plate.

Maybe you need more iron. You can take supplements. Its probably a craving for more protein or iron. I got these when I was a veg, adn usually just eating more legumes and protein shakes did it for me.

_Thanks for your replies. gertie & ahimsa I think you both have very good points, I never thought about the protein & iron and I never asked my mother about it mainly because she says she doesn't even remember what meat tastes like. She recommended adding more: nuts, spinach, parsnips, peas & peppers to my diet during the cycle.

this really helps me whenever I meet someone that doesn't seem to understand/respect my choice.

    Again, thanks.

_It's not really the taste, it's more like a feeling of 'needing' it.

what usually gets me is my concious and overall well being after eating a piece of meat, it just isnt the same as eating say a potatoe or some fruits and veggies, i wish they made fruits and veggies that tasted like a juicy burger though...for me, switching to veggie was more than just to stop eating animals, but to actually eat right and feel right, though the animal thing had a lot to do with it too...

Just last week I discovered a company that sells veggie patties. Company's name is "Morning Star". They are mainly soy based. The chik patties are really good. I was suprised when I bought them. I also bought a box of their veggie corn dogs but haven't tried them yet. Funny, thought I would crave meats more but I don't. Glad I'm going vegetarian. I know it's a much healthier way of life.

Okay - This is the best I have been able to come up with for MY Cravings...here goes...

Get yourself a pkg of morning star farms grillers, american cheese and potato rolls.

Use your favorite non stick spray and grill em up in a pan and melt the cheese on em and serve with a few slices of white onion lettuce tomato, ketchup, and mustard and mayo.... it's SO much like a real diner burger its crazy.

Have hope folks, if they can grow a liver in a lab, they could grow a muscle too could'nt they? and if enough people would buy them they WILL do it for food and not just medical reasons. I would love to taste cruelty free meat before I die.

Whennever I think of eating meat I just think of how strong I have been so far to not eat any. I also think about all the diseases and crap that was fed to this animal before it would land on my plate. I also think that it's flesh. Eating flesh sounds a lot less appealing than eating a steak. I dunno it always works for me. Usually I just deal with it.

But then again I was always the girl who saved all my Halloween candy.

Morning Star just came out with the new "Flame Grillers" kind of veggie burger, those are awesome! They're especially good if you cook them in a pan; tastes pretty close to a burger.

Then again, you might just be looking for that hardiness that comes with meat. So what you could do is make a portabello mushroom sandwich; you cook it the same as a hamburger. I usually add a whole bunch of veggies, like spinach, tomato, etc. That usually helps my cravings.

_Got to love portobello mushrooms. Especially with cajun seasoning.
