    FOR THE LAST TIME OKIE!!

I am arguing against THAT concept of GOD!!!

    What don't you understand already!!

How many damn times do I have to put this in this thread!!!

I am not here to expand or change my concept of god!!

I am only here to argue against that one contradictory concept.

That's fine. But when you say you're arguing against the omnipotent God of most major religions, that makes it confusing. Hinduism, for example, is a major religion. Is their God omnipotent or beyond omnipotence, since we are all part of God's consciousness? Maybe your arguments are only against major religions that make a big deal about omnipotence (which would pretty much be the Abrahmic ones). Of those, mainline Christian Protestants, non-orthodox Jews, Catholics and Eastern Orthodox religions are non-literalists, relying either on the church or their own reasoning to tell them what the Bible means. The apparent paradox that you present is one they've already resolved to their own satisfaction. So what I'm wondering is what the point of this exercise really is. If it's to discredit fundies, it makes sense, but there are so many contradictions in their beliefs, it's probably a futile effort.

    I have a secret.

I think philosophy is the result of man over-thinking things WAY too much. I hate most philosophy.

I think therefore I am? Bullshit. You truly are only when you can clear your mind of thoughts.

This thread makes me feel a little bit better about my opinion on philosophy because it validates my opinion.

    That is all.

Everyone who actually looks at the history of either Christianity or Islam knows exactly why they try to say their god is omnicient and omnipotent. Ever since the beginning of actual Christianity with Paul this God concept has been used to control people and make them either fearful or in awe of said being so that they would do what their religion wants them to do. By the way traditional Judaism does not actually see God as omnipotent or fully omnicient

Precisely. In order to make someone afraid of an omnipotent being you have to convince them that the being has expectations/wants in relation to what they are doing. But you have to ensure that they imagine that this being has all powerful abilities so that they never think twice about holding themselves above it.

I am not targeting any specific group, just the concept of God that the Abrahamic Texts provide(Islam/Christianity).

You should really read up on judaism man. For instance did you know that in the original bible aka Torah Both Abraham and Moses where known for arguing with God and getting him to change his mind? That in and of itself proves God in the Jewish tradition is not seen as omnicient. Because to change one's mind would imply one does not know something and is shown that thing to be true or right.

Well if God exsists I say we try it. Let us pray! "Oh great God please think long and hard about your stigma on premarital sex. Is there some good reason why we shouldn't have it?"

God "Hey man I didn't come up with that. Blame those dudes down there in their churches, mosques, and synagogues. BUT if you want a good reason not to do it think AIDS..."

I guess praying would be the first option. Still, I would like to get the same treatment the prophets supposedly got before I believe that I am actually having a conversation with god and not simply a conversation with WHAT I think god would say.

Yeah, but what if you do what me and my partner did, which is get tested before we had sex?

Examples? Who I have insulted here or anywhere else? If by insulting, you mean disagreeing, or saying something that someone else might not agree with, then yes. But that's not my definition of an insult - and if that is your definition of an insult, then you've got a rocky road ahead of you my friend.

Listen, we get it, you've got a master's in philosophy - how long do you think you can get by justifying your arguments with that? This argument has clearly degenerated into a bickering session, so I'm done. I won't trouble you again, but I want you to consider the following, a request, an experiment if you like:

Save this thread or revisit it in - say - a year, or two - objectively, if possible. Pay attention to your tone and really try to read what I've said and divorce yourself from your emotion and pride. Then ask yourself who was being a straight up jerk and who wasn't - with the exception of this post, of course. :) Cheers, Mate.
