Greets A short review. If you liked vanilla Fallout 3 or same with addons. You will like New Vegas. Pro You get companions.. and they can be mighty powerfull if you arm them well. A whole swath of new weapons. Some cool gun tech Factions. [like Stalker] That you can side with [3] And a Map with nearly as many places to go as Fallout 3 Con No new graphics. Its the same engine and quality. At 1/2 the price of F3. [where i am] its a must have Boaz
Evil I gave Veronica the AER14 prototype . and 51b power armour.. she rocks and ed-e keeps eyes on everything fighting final battle for hoover dam now [lvl 27 now, i would wait till lvl 30 but why.. i wipe legion groups in seconds. So i think no trouble defeating legion at hover.. Have b29 and rockets from Nellis. + of course Brotherhood support] Boaz.. Idolized
There are a lot more cons with this game than you might think. You already pointed out a MINOR flaw, but there are definitely others. I say all of this as someone who legitimately enjoyed playing it. Factually, this game should have been developed for another year before it was released, re worked, every bug taken out and fixed. They could have just released a beta and everyone would post their problems with it. Not only that, the REAL problems would have been fixed and the commercial release would have stood up a lot better. The way it was released to the public looks and feels like a beta. I would be able to deal with the same graphics if they worked out some of the scripting issues, and terrible load times. I'll throw in a couple more. 1) Insects, Animals, and Abominations move sideways, half way through the ground. 2) The longer you play it, the slower it gets. Load times within Freeside, The New Vegas strip and the Old Mormon fort can take forever if you have been playing awhile. Turning your system off, letting it cool down seems to help this, but not by much. 3) I have noticed that the farther you fast travel, the longer it takes to load. When in Fallout 3 it took about the same time for everywhere. 4) The brotherhood of steel's story should have expanded MUCH more than it did. You do 4 missions from them and you have no option to keep going, I found this to be the case with EVERY faction aside from the NCR. Once the elder calls the end of the lockdown, you should be able to run into patrols. Retake past objectives and really expand the brotherhood. In my honest opinion all factions should have had the option of you joining them, and also had the opportunity to take over new vegas WITH that faction. 5) Not enough enemies, not enough difficulty. Your talking to a guy who plays it on 'Hard' by default. Even Hardcore becomes too easy once you get used to it. Its a GREAT game trying to break out of its problematic and glitchy shell. New vegas was a money making opportunity with a few new bells and whistles thrown in there. Either on behalf of the artists who created it for their mental satisfaction, or the people who wanted the money because they knew the exact same game wouldn't sell well. I played it, and once you GET USED to the glitches and bugs, it becomes an amazing frustration. The amount of pleasure BARELY making the frustration worth it, but it does. If they had worked all the bugs, glitches and pansy programming...this game would have been game of the year bar none. It was so bad I hear a map designer lost her job because of scripting errors. Sad thing. It wasn't her fault that the deadline for the release was ridiculous.
Optimistic point by point.. Yes the critters floating into mesh are basic stuff that should have been fixed.. usually a bit sticks out.. blast that and its dead. Have not noticed any lag times for distance and path in game. All loads take about 10 to 15 seconds. Compared to say crysis at 30 seconds plus. Or Nwn2. Perhaps my combination of WD raptor drives and a HD5000 series vid card helps. Im not a tech head.. But i do build own machines. I agree the brotherhood storyline is far too limited. I have Veronica always at side.. she is indestructable [ and i found her a dress] You may have noticed that when wearing brthhood power arm you dont have same rep with others.. can cause problems.. especially at shops True it is not difficult enough.. not enough powerful on map mobs.. EXAMPLE Came across 3 supermutants at camp.... Step one sneek to position. 2 headshoot the rocket guy.. clean up the minigunner and sledgeman. 15 seconds I do all this with NO VATS never used it.VATS MAKES GAME TOO EASY. Its like the cloak in Crysis. Makes you god.. What the point? After years of multiplayer css if i cant headshot a target from 100 meters im a total nobody. Online shooters are TOUGH The hunting riffle with all mods. is a killer As is riot gun with shotgun perk and solid slugs. throw in 'steady' and it kills everything. Yes it is frustrating.. Like NwN2 or the tactical sandbox of Men of War. There are quirks you have to learn..Keep gear maintained.. at all costs. Pick the learning perks early to get best benefit.. go for criticals perks try to get luck up to 10 if you can. A 'have to' is the jerry rig perk.. the one where you can use all sorts of guns to fix others.. a must have. pick up everything .. fix it untill inv full and sell at gunrunners. Thsts 8000 credits every 3 days shops have 3 day reset No game is perfect. The closest [i have played] is Halo 1 Ah the good old days.. lol Lastly. Im a SF peep.. I own near every SF movie and have read many thousands of such books.Wheres a game about Banks' Culture. Or Dorsai. As a historian and tinker.. yes.. the game could have been much much better.. but isnt that the same with all games... where do you stop.. in the end we live with corporate decisions. Im simply thankfull i was born in west and can have a powerfull machine and the money and means to get decent games to play. Imagine being born in Mogadishu or Pyongyang... Id go insane
the problems with Fallout:NV isn't the makers..but the engine. That engine is notoriously buggy. All those issues have been there since it first released with Oblivion. It's Bethesda's fault Fallout 3 and Fallout:NV is so buggy. and I'm surprised neither one of you talked about the crashing. it's bad. which is too bad, because Bethesda makes great "sandbox" RPGs.. I'd KILL for a BioWare storyline/characters/dialogue in a Bethesda Sandbox RPG
dmorris Niether oblivion or fallout 3 [with dlcs] or new vegas. have crashed for me...Thus its hardware. Try ATI Radeon a 58k series card with core 2 plus
Wow, really man? The beggining vault is pretty boreing, but the real game doesn't start untill you escape from the vault. Some of my friends also hated the game because they only played in the vault, but later on playing outside of it they loved it. I suggest you try it again and get at least to megaton, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to put the controller down
Vault 101 Think... it took me 20 mins to leave .. Use the brain reality gave you I live in megaton .citzen.. grow a brain
I liked the game but I wish it had given you more choice. It seems to give you the illusion of choice but in the end there are really only a few ways to beat the game. I was the wild card, I killed Mr. House, upgraded the securitrons, took care of the strip. People should have recognized me as the new ruler, but instead nothing really changes. It would take forever, but like someone mentioned before I wish the game world was a real, living breathing world where actions had real, observable consequences. There are so many little factions that I wish I could have done more with. Maybe helped the remnants return to their former glory. Same for the Brotherhood. Maybe done more with the super mutants at black mountain. It seemed like for most of the quests you had to be in the NCR's good graces, which sucks because I hate the NCR. I've played fallout 1,2,3 and now new vegas, and I still say that none of them compare to the experience of fallout 2.
