Hey guys! Time for me to stop lurking and become an active and contributing member for these here forums! I figured I'd start with my dread journey as everyone seems to have one/enjoy them I'll apologise in advance for the crappy quality of some/most of the pictures...my webcam isn't the best! If I do something technologically special and the pics don't work please tell me, I'm pretty useless at this computer stuff So I "started" my dreads in late April which'll make them about 4 months now :daisy: I decided to backcomb them a bit just to roughen the hair follicles up and to attempt to define sections but hair will do what it will and I got pretty bored and achey after about 3 hours so I certainly didn't do a tight job of it. My hair is knotty and crazy anyway and used to need soaking in conditioner to get the matts out if I went even one night without brushing it so I thought 'screw this!' and let it just get on with it. Here's what I have so far :sunny: ...
Hair in it's natural (ish) state, pre-bleaching Bleached and ready to go! This was my first 'dread' All done, looking pretty tired
About a week in, after the first (terrifying) wash. This would be just under a month I think, still looking very straight but still relatively backcombed. These two would have been two months in (ish), all the backcombing is falling out and the knots started to form properly, weirdly (I think) from my roots down!
These were about a month ago, so three months in. They look way more knotty and all those crazy lovely little loopies (alliteration is fun!) popped up everywhere. ...Aaaaaaand this is today, a couple of days past the four month mark, looking relatively like actual dreads I think, feeling a tonne better too. At this point I am totally in love with my dreads and wondering why I put it off for so long (some idiot reasons about 'proper jobs' and all that shizz) So yeah, that's me so far! Becca
Thanks guys! Didn't realise those last pictures would be so darn huge! It's a little disconcerting to have your face staring at you, in that size, on a forum :s Thanks for the warm welcome Becca eace:
I hope so! I can't wait for the point where they graduate to being 'proper' dreads and are locked up and tight, but I'm really enjoying watching my hair do it's own thing and all the crazy loopy goodness that comes from it Planning on keeping them going for the long haul, I honestly can't see me being without them now Bee
Aww thanks guys :blush5: I've been lurking for such a long time now it's a little surreal to actually be posting Bee
Thans barefootlocks Incidentally I've just been perving over the barefoot sandals you made in the crafty sub-forum; they are beautiful!
they look so good! i wish i could do this, but i don't even know how to start. Keep them in for as long as you can, they are so awesome!
Haha! They're super easy to make, even if you only know how to braid. I can pm you some instructions if you like
