Not sure what sub category to put this in but I will just put it here. Either Country, folk, old time or psychedelic alt rock, I dunno... Been listening to this guys albums for a few months now, and i always come back to them when I am drunk. I am not drunk now, but you don't have to be drunk to appreciate this music. It's better if you are stoned, which I am not either sadly. I have a small bit of hash which I am saving for this evening and then I am dry again. I just had a nice cup of tea, how terribly british I am. Any fans of Cotton Jones in the house? I think he is a really great song writer, and I love his sound- the laid back Neil Young style country blues, and the male-female vocal combo. I recommend anything, but in particular I really like The Daytrotter Session and Paranoid Cocoon, which I am listening to now. Some really nice laid back grooves, with a nice hammond organ throughout.
New Daytrotter session released today, free download here- http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/cotton-jones-concert/20031040-3737757.html EDIT- links has been taken down i think, not sure why, will update if they put it back up. I'd never heard of it before but you made a fan of me Man Climbs out of Winter is very Tom Waits meets Neil Young I love it also liked Egg on a Sea alot very cool
Glad you like them Boogeyman, it's nice to get some feedback. I like to share my favourites with people on the internet, because I want other people to appreciate their music like I do. don't think many people take notice of the bands I promote, it's usually something kind of special that I stick up though when I do. Just listening to Man Climbs Out Of The Water now, he really does sing beautifully in that, really reminds me of some old country music that my aunt mary and uncle jim used to listen to when I was knee high to donkey. His voice sometimes grates me though, when he tries to be too vocal it doesn't work and sounds a bit too trumpety. But the version of that song on the latest Daytrotter session is really nice. And Whitney McGraw is the cowgirl who also sings and plays some instruments. Don't know who writes the song, i think she writes some of the more psychedelic ones maybe. She also has a beautiful voice and sings some really nice songs that I keep going back to time and again when i am on the liquor, eh? :2thumbsup:
I also love the song Less Than Positive but I can't find an recorded version on utoob. The chorus comes in with a bit of hammond organ and it just send chills down your spine. This version is quite nice though, recorded in a record store. sadly it's cut in the middle, I guess the guy had to change SD disk or something. Just as Whitney comes in with her angelic chords, she is just the picture of loveliness in this clip. Blues from a nest and raspberry stream are also a bit flower power, I think she write these ones. I don't know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjQoqFp9exk"]Cotton Jones--Less Than Positive--Part 1 - YouTube Not sure why but the second part also wont load for me right now... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oISe9jj4UGw"]Cotton Jones--Less Than Positive--Part 2 - YouTube It's nothing too fancy, but I just like those lyrics for some reason.
