Hello! I couldn't find any questions regarding gluten free food and my question also has to do with vegan food so I'd say this is the best area of the site to ask? If not feel free to lead me elsewhere! The title says it all, I am going to a festival and camping soon and I of course know basic stuff but does anyone have any gluten free/vegan food they really like to take with them camping? ( won't have fire or devices to cook with ) much love! :daisy:
Hiya, I'm gluten free and an ex vegan, but there is no way I would ever do the two together, it's just impractical and a risk. As a gf eater I always take some bread and spreads or premade sandwiches with me on trips, with cheese/salad/veggie pate inside. Anything else that's portable and easily munched on the go like biscuits and fruit are good too. You should invest in a small gas fire and a mini pan.
I eat vegan and gluten free. Staple foods for festivals are tropical fruits, bananas, melons, and greens. Tropical fruits like mangos will be perfect for festivals. They will keep well in the heat of summer. They will provide you with a good amount of water and fiber. They are also give you great energy to keep you dancing from day to late night as they are 90% easy to digest simple sugar. Grab a case of mangos, a case of bananas, and a case of lettuce. 5 small meals through out the day consisting of 2 banana, 2 mango, and a half head of lettuce. You will get all the calories, carbs, protein and fat you need to rage the festival.
I have been camping over Pesach (no bread) and while eating vegan. I relied on fruits (usually dried), nuts and some rice cakes (I follow Sephardi rules). nut butters, a few veggies and sweets are always nice, and probably very doable for a festival (as compared to backpacking).
I have a similar problem. We sell our tie dye at festivals and as such are not allowed a warming device of any kind and have no way to keep foods cold for a 3-4 day stretch. We take one cooler, but it only keeps cold short term and the ice we buy melts, getting everything soggy by the end of day one. Last year, we spent over $150 on three people because we had to buy food from other vendors only one of which was veg friendly.
this company is 2 blocks from my house...the owner is a nice lady and i have tried most if not all of the line..they ship and they supplie several chains..i have been in their plant and i can attest to its cleanliness..these people rock in the glutten free world http://www.purestnaturalproducts.com/
Im a mostly gluten-free vegan. I like to bring mostly fruit to festivals to refresh myself when I've been partying "too hard". Some other good things are veggie & tofu rice-paper or rice-bread wraps, coconut water, nuts, etc. Maybe pre-make a stirfry with rice and keep containers of it in a cooler. I find I don't end up eating a whole hell of a lot at festivals though. I generally over pack food.
