hey folks, ive just found out that in the film adaption of ' his dark materials' by philip pullman they are cutting out ALL references to God and the church from the film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For those who have not read these amazing books and do not know why this is such a huge deal, the entire novel revolves around conflict with the church and God etc!!! the reason that Chris Weitz is doing this??? So as not to offend president Bush and all the fundamentalist Christians in America!!!!!!!!!! The playwrite originally assigned to the project, ie Sir Tom Stoppard, has been fired and his work has been shelved. I personally cannot see how they intend to pull off a film adaption of ' His dark materials' without reference to god or the church when it plays such a crucial part in the story. what does everyone else think on this subject?? does anyone else have any further information on it??? let me know what u all think. peace and love xxxxxxx
It will just be another ruined childhood favorite adapted to film that I won't be seeing (ie: Ella Enchanted)
you can't be serious...how in the heck do they expect to get the plot to work without the Church/God thing?!?!?! and if they DO get something, guaranteed it will be CRAP because it won't work as well as the book...yet another thing that Bush has ruined for us...I can NOT believe we are stuck with him for another 4 years!! UGH!!!
Here's an article someone sent me about this: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1393306,00.html I think it's a disgrace. These movies are going to be awful.
"(Pullman's) agent, Caradoc King, said that he was happy with the work so far. “Of course New Line want to make money, but Mr Weitz is a wonderful director and Philip is very supportive. You have to recognise that it is a challenge in the climate of Bush’s America,” " People are really afraid of Bush. He's got so many connections with people who will do his dirty work for him, I don't blame people for being afraid. Thanks for the article!
What a shame... I love those books, they're amongst my favourites. The movie will no doubt be terrible. They're basically just taking the plot away.
I think the movies will certainly not be as good as it would have been with the whole theological aspect of the books - but i wouldnt say it would be terrrible. For me, a movie has to be exceptionally dreadful to be classified as terrible and i dont think these flics will be as bad as that to be honest - i hope they wont anyways. However, I do also feel that if you're gonna take out the whole God and church aspect of the book, then you may aswell take out the witches on the grounds that they "promote witchcraft"!! Im suprprised that none of the American Christians have mentioned that yet actually, no doubt somebody will sooner or later. peace and love xxxxxx
Totally agree Really don't see how it could work without those references, well and not be pointless crap. This whole sorry mess is proof, if any were needed, that someone needs to stand up to the Bible bashers and say enough already. Otherwise it will just get worse, could even be Macarthyism II. Scary thought. Hehe promoting witchcraft, nah we don't need any encouragement.
