I stumbled upon an article detailing something called Schizoid Personality Disorder. After some reading, I'm a bit concerned. It mentions disruptive patterns of thought, and issues with interpersonal relationships. The article also states that it affects the ability to accept praise and criticism.

I don't want to jump to any conclusions. Are there any significant symptoms of this issue?

    Dont self-diagnose.
You'll just attach a whole bunch of disorders to yourself.

    I know a schizoid guy.

Basically it just means he doesnt give a shit about society - social relationships. Indifference. Little desire for them. Introverted, isolated within himself, yet satisfied.

My understanding is that most schizoids wouldn't care with the diagnosis, or would even dispute it being a disorder. They're happy in their own little emotionally-devoid world.

..but then I may be wrong..

It wouldn't make a difference at this point. My thought process wouldn't suddenly change just because of acknowledging it. The question is asked to sate my curiousity.

    Anyway, thanks for the $0.02.

Is this disorder anyway related to schizophrenia?

You have to start with identfying the larger diagnostic system as a tool to attempt to medicalize behaviors that people find troubling or not conforming to the larger culture. This system tends to provide boxed explanations to comlex and subjective problems. Look for solutions to to your interpersonal issues rather than diagnostic guidance. It will only lead to a prescription.
