IMO, both the “hitting” AND the use of marijuana to “calm the baby down” is way out of line and not in any way a proper, nor effective, means of caring for a ten-month-old. The condition of the surroundings, i.e. what appears to be clothing and other household items strewn about the floor and the “shut the fuck up” language says a lot about the woman’s mentality as far as providing a favorable environment for children of any age.

I, too, have serious doubts that jail time will have any positive effect on the woman’s parenting ability or efforts. In consideration of the woman’s apparent mindset, it seems jail time may have the opposite effect: she may blame the child – rehabilitation in the form of anger management or child rearing programs will likely be dismissed as “just more bullshit” and still the “fault” of others.

Is this merely off-topic or are you saying that exposure to “toxic chemicals…” is the reason for this mother’s abuse of her child?

Yep. Too many times, the method of childcare/parenting seen in the video has actually been learned through imitation of the parents or grandparents. The unbroken cycle is a continuing downward spiral of society.

What pisses me off most about this is that people watched and didnt do anything!
If i ever saw some one hurt a baby in any way i would step in for sure.
Its just bullshit that people rather tape things then actually step in.
Its even shittier that anyone could treat a child like this theres plenty of people who would make amazing parents ,but cant have kids while we have stuiped bitches like this one who poppin babys out like its there job.
Like if you dont want kids rap it up!
&if you still get preg. after that there plenty of other options.
    And the articles tittle really?
Pot in the kids face is the least of there worrys like for real.
People need to get this war on drugs stick out of there ass and focus on actual issues!
She'll probably be charged more for the pot then hitting her child.

Wow, this is a pretty pathetic attempt to jump on your soapbox and preach, again.
At least pick threads that may have SOME connection to your sermonizing.

I'm curious as to what other drugs she may have been involved with, meth maybe?
Usually pot smokers aren't that prone to react violently to stress.
In a way I can sympathize with her situation, but don't for a second condone her actions.
Not sure how many of you have kids that have posted, but I've been there with a baby screaming for literally hours and can understand the frustration that can ensue.
But hitting an infant is never the answer.
Concerning the pot smoke, I'm on the fence about that one. How many of you older members have heard of or been given some form of alcohol for things such as teething pain, I know I was and have often heard of that. Even knew a doctor who suggested rubbing rum on the babies gums to help.
I think I would rather give my infant some cannabis tincture rather than prescription or OTC pain meds.

But as was already mentioned, children having children is one of the main problems here as well as the lack of family help in caring for the baby.

    I'm in Ca. and it is illegal to smoke in a car with a minor present as well, has been since 2007;
    http://tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.com/2007/10/california-bans-smoking-in-cars-with.html

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger this week signed into law a bill that bans smoking in cars with children present. The law provides for fines of up to $100 for anyone smoking in a car with a child under the age of 18. The legislation makes smoking in a car a secondary offense, meaning that the police cannot stop a motorist merely for violating this law. A motorist could only be charged if he or she were to be stopped for some other moving vehicle violation.

personally I tend to agree with the blog owner on this one, lame law made to caress someones ego and make them feel better about themselves that they have saved some poor innocent.

Alls I'm sayin' is I was the sole caretaker for over 15 infants over the course of 4 years and I was still learning how to meet the needs of my baby by the time he was 1. It certainly wouldn't hurt anyone to make new parents take a class before bringing their infant home...a class longer than the 5 minute video they make you watch before leaving the hospital.

As was said earlier, many mothers learn their parenting style from their parents. If the parent (grandparent) isn't able to help their son or daughter out when they have their first baby, there should be some sort of other help offered. Yes, maybe I was wrong to say they should be required to do so.

Also, this woman was 22 years old...not a child by any means. She should've had the common sense (or training) to know what NOT to do at the very least.

When you bring the child home from the hospital you "decide" to have a child. Period. Up until then, and even after, there are other options.

This woman calls herself a mommy?

People who harm little kids and old people are just scum. How about holding and cuddling your baby to help her stop crying instead of exposing her to smoke and abuse?

No one puts a gun to your head and forces you to raise a child. Lots of people are more than happy to take that child.
