Hi all, I'm looking to grow a sativa called Raspberry Cough. I don't have much of a space to grow it very tall. So I was wondering if I could make it grow shorter by growing it in a smaller container? Or if you have any other ideas I would be glad to hear them. Any help would be great. Thanks.

    Peace!

bounding the roots in tight containers isnt what you want..

grow it,, let it get big in vegetation. And clone it..

Once your clones root, Initiate flowering. They will not get very tall..

Actually I have not gotten the seeds yet, but I did order them. So I can try that on my first season. Thanks for your response.

Bonzi is.nt much more then restricting and trimming the roots.
Growing fewer and training to grow outwards not up, using correct amount of light but in the blue spectrum for the complete grow. Inflicting cold night time temps. Topping hyper early and flipping.
What kinda space you looking to grow in and kinda set up?

So I see that there is much more that can be done to making it grow outward instead of upward. This is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks.

Got a question though, I found what topping means but what does flipping mean?

I want to grow them in a 5 foot high closet.

    Peace!

guessing that flipping is the change in light times?...but i am outdoor guy so its just a guess......i have flowering sativas that range from 8 inches up to 8 feet...bit of a brag there,sorry...this is the 8 incher alongside an 18 incher..i cut a clone late this summer and after it rooted it went straight to flowering because of the longer nights[flip?]...so now its a bonsai

Sorry about my fault flipping as in turn the light to 12/12 to induce blooming.

Should not present to much of a problem in that space with moderate topping and training.
Handy things to research... lst low stress training, scrog screen of green, super cropping,

Scrog is simple enough you top and place a mesh screen just over the top and train the plant to grow along it and when your've 2/3 filled the screen you bloom the plant, a bit obvious but you need to have sex the plants before you scrog as a male would be hard to remove.
Low stress training is using waits and ties to train the plant kinda scrog without the screen.
Super cropping is you damage a stem by squeezing and pinching it till you can bend it to the direction you want it to grow but its mainly used to control upwards growth when you've over done it and plant gets to tall.

One last thing to remember when blooming setting plant into flower is that they can double in height so you need to allow for this plus the distance between the light.

yes...allow and hope lol...just wanted to say...that little plant in the picture wasnt supposed to make it this far..we were working on my patio stones..some had sunk and i was putting 'sandstone' powder underneath and i noticed how it soaked up water so i filled a 2 inch baby pot with some[wet] and clipped a 1 inch high cutting, dipped it in rooting powder and stuck it on my fence where it would get only indirect light....to my surprise it stayed alive and just froze there for almost a month...when it came time to either throw it away or transport it i thought...what the hell?..so in the ground it went where it immediately started growing and flowering... the little fucker has about 5 grams of bud on it...yahoo its party time

Think you need a wing and prayer if you listen to anything I've got to say.

That is a cute plant though rollingalong love the history and think it deserved to live till a ripe age.

In my (limited) experience what Orison said is good advice. The only sativa I've grown is super lemon haze and it can be a bit of a bitch. They grow tall and spindly.
    Binding the roots doesn't help.

What you can do is look into LST, bending them over and training. I don't like topping, its hurting the plant. By bending and training, you encourage multiple tops and will get a more mature plant that will produce more in less vertical space.
But, with mine and most that I've seen pics of that are trained, you will need stakes to support the weight once they start flowering. Sativa has long weak stems that don't support the tops well.

Is the Raspberry Cough ideal indoors? What is LST by the way?

Ive no experience with that strain, couldn't say.

LST is low stress training, bending and shaping the plant.

Let's see if i can explain this easily. There is a hormone in many plants like weed, that makes them grow like a pine tree, the highest part will be dominant. If you bend it over, the side branches will try to grow taller. By using some wire or string, you can bend the top over and have several tops grow without cutting the plant. Each time you do that it has to recover. By training, it keeps growing. It takes a little time, but if you love your plants they will love you back.
Google low stress training. It's just one technique but im happy with it.

    Cool man, hope it helps.

Depends on what you mean by slow. Topping makes plants stop growing to heal the injury. Too each their own tho, there's many approaches. Thing with sativas is they almost always take longer than indicas to mature in flowering. Mine take 3-4 weeks longer in 12/12 than any indica I've grown.

Worth waiting for, if u ask me ;)

(though I realize now it was stupid to top it, in the last time, just before I changed to 12-12... 1st timer)

LST next time. Thank you Voyage for the detailed explanation !! :)
