So I noticed but the point is what I said was not impudent and you are ignoring that your OP has been answered and you just won't accept that fact. [IMG]

Who answered it? I did say to leave aside whether or not this would actually happen, which is what most have focused on.

Walsh, you are a believer, and that is certain I can tell. Just because the hypotheses of bibles ceasing to be important, of people liking to change the world in the military, or the alternative desire of chnaging the world for who has OR had the power is evidently not the event of rigorous thought for you; that doesn't mean that would not be serious over the other form of Belief. It is not a serious question that the ideal destruction of the sources of our faiths could be destroyed. Unseriously evnironmentalists are trheatened in their faith for books like Darwin's, Gore's, and Wilson's, and the lack of a serious demeanour develops instead that we take the Bible and Koran seriously.

Of course it would still exist. The fact that most people hardly read their bibles anyway has not stopped most Christians from going to church until now.

"I don't believe that would ever be possible obliviously(freudian slip?) because god is real and wouldn't let such a thing happen'.

Now,this is interesting to me. I find it odd that people will praise and thank god when some event favors them. Surviving a train/car/plane/drowning accident, for example. "God was watching over me/us"

What I don't hear, are people for whom tragedy has had real and immediate devastating affects on them, their families or even strangers--damning god for allowing such to happen."god had his back turned".

What I don't hear is anyone damning god for 30,000 children starving or being killed every day.

What I don't hear is people damning god for the wars that have been and are probably going to continue throughout our history.

What I don't hear is people damning god for natural disasters (tsunamis, earthquakes, tornados, ect) that kill innocent people all the time.

What I do hear are boxers thanking god for in effect" letting me beat that guy to a pulp" or letting someone win a race, physical or political.

What I do hear is people claiming to know the mysteries of existance with certitude. I'm curious to have someone explain this dichotomy.

Are people so sure that we were created in gods image? What image do we ,as humans display? Are our actions god-like? Is it proper to worship an "entity" that is personified by the acts of humans? Wouldn't it seem that there were and are many, many epochs in history ( including this one)that would have been excellant times to intervene in the savage business that continues?

Someone please explain,if possible, how this works. I certainly don't understand any of it. I hope no one says="god works in mysterious ways".

The world would be a far better place, in a generation or two, after everyone had forgotten what was in that fucked-up collection of heavily edited books.

God works in mysterious ways...nuff said

    Not! (What is this, 1997?)

Seriously, Do I think God cares if you fail your math test or not: probably. Scripture says God knows the hairs on our heads and knit us together in the womb, it is likely he even cares about the incredibly mundane things we fret over.

Does praying to God to pass mean you will? Likely not. Why? Cause God is not a pizza order. Prayer is not magic, and the primary purpose of prayer is adoration, not personal petitions.

I know there are something things about God we can say with certitude, however they all fail to capture the infinite magnitude that is the Godhead. I have heard it said, and have said myself, that whenever we speak of God in human languages, which is always, we necessarily are speaking in metaphors and implied similies.

"God is love" relies on the human notions of love, and applies them to God, however human love (such as that between spouses) fails to demonstrate the fullness of the love of God. (That is one reason why we have Sacraments. Physical signs of God's grace, by which we receive the very grace they point to).
"God is [like] our Father" Again, we use our limited human experience to explain what God is like, but it completely does not capture the magnitude of the Father.

    Am I coherent enough?

"again,we use OUR LIMITED HUMAN EXPERIENCE to explain what god is like". It's been my point for years and years that therein lies the rub. Limited human experience.

I might ask--what does he care about,if he doesn't care about the issues I mentioned? When and where does that care show? Is it manifesting to you now?

    I'm insulted, truly.

Yes but what would they do in church? What authority would they rely on? Do you not think these are the interesting questions, and not the insultingly obvious "they shall prevail".

And all this God knows. Relying on human notions of love is all we can do - and it is has proven an utter failure to produce it. Jesus' teachings have been a failure. You either love, or do not love. You can't produce love through the will.

I answered it for one. The result would be a world without God or people, because that is the only way to eliminate the the Bible.

I meant to say that it's obvious to those that read my posts that I wouldn't believe we live in a world without God. :D

Personally, I don't believe that God is a good luck charm or that he stops a plane crash from happening. I consider that a superstitious look on God. God created the universe using wisdom and following that wisdom can lead to inner peace and possibly good things but that really depends on free-willed beings that God has given us and hopes we use it wisely. But the inner peace is still possible even if there are fires all around or whatnot or if those we associate with choose to sell themselves short.

God can help us to know what to look for in a mate and things like it so we can get the best life has to offer. What God can't do is to force that person we marry to always remain faithful and loving. It would still be up to us on deciding which attitude to embrace and live by even if everything around us is falling short.

God could have created the necessary components in reality so we can use them effectively to get the best out of nature (not a Freudian slip :) Just being tactful of our differences). What God can't do is stop a tornado from hitting a largely populated area (interestingly, the word used for city means chaos and the word for nature means order) - To this day I'm still a little confused as to why there are cities near volcanoes - This is mostly because of entropy becoming part of the universe from original sin, but that's soon to be corrected. :)

Okay. Assuming there were still people around, who don't have photographic memories and can remember the contents of the bible, what would happen to christian theology.

religion also saves lives, and give a sense of assurance and a state of mind, I'm really big on the term believe what ever that makes you happy and that can guide you into happiness, freedom of the mind etc.

I believe without the bible there will be more killing, rapes, and hate

Then you haven't eliminated the Bible, it would still exist in the hearts and minds of believers.

You are looking at the Bible as if it was like any other book, that it is just words on a piece of paper that can be destroyed.

That somehow by eliminating the Bible, that God would no longer exist, that God's purposes would change and that those who worship God would no longer know how to do so. [IMG]

No i'm not. I'm looking at the content of the religion divorced from the words in the Bible - that if the whole of the content stems from that one book, there is really no basis for god outside of its pages. Obviously, if we interpret a phenomenon through a text, and that text is gone, then the interpretation goes too.

God exists regardless of whether the Bible exists or not and that can be seen from the things created. But if Man is to understand why things are the way they are and what God's purposes for the Earth and mankind are more is needed than what can be found in the "book" creation. Thus God gave to mankind the Bible.
Only if the text never existed. If the text disappears that does not take with it the minds and hearts of those who read it.
