what have you guys eaten when you were poor?

we were talking here about the foods you ate/eat when you are real poor...

one of my friends swears he ate nothing but jalapeno peppers and Pay-Day candy-bars...
my friend Danny says he used to live on sandwiches made of; bread, tortilla chips, mayonnaise, and mustard...

i always ate shit-tons of beans and rice...

I didn't even have gas. I was boiling water in an electric teakettle and using it to make Ramen Noodles. Every day, that was all I ate.

There is this place the next town over near the place I used to work called, Eshes discount grocer, you could buy cans of tomato soup for like 25 cents a can, I lived off that for a couple months.

Ramen's always been a staple, I still have it stockpiled in my cabinet and eat it out of desire instead of necessity every now and then. Haha.

Let's see...fried hotdogs and potatoes are a good poor food if you eat meat and can look past the whole...hotdog thing. Haha. We've fried a lot of potatoes in our tighter budget days. Frito pie is also really cheap if you buy the cheap chili and the store-brand corn chips. Tuna and blue box mac and cheese (Kraft dinner to you Canadians) costs less than $2 for pretty much all the ingredients and is enough to feed two scrawny people. Tuna sandwiches are also crazy cheap.

Beans and cornbread is also super cheap. I've eaten a lot of grilled cheeses and tomato soup, too. I can't really remember off the top of my head the other things we settled on when we were strapped for cash, but we had enough of a variety that we still go back and eat that kind of stuff every now and then. I find that stuff to be comfort food, lol.

Lentils and brown rice, they cook at the same rate and in the same pot...... add whatever else you have, if you have it.
