UPDATE: 9/20/2011 - DAY FOUR. The Protest Continues! Police now making arrests for bogus reasons. More than 1,000 protesters decended upon Wall Street yesterday to protest the effects of big corporations upon the American economy. Police blocked off much of Lower Manhattan's Financial District to prevent a larger gathering. The police tried to setup a protest area in front of the NY Stock Exchange (no doubt surrounded by fences so the protesters could be corralled), but protesters refused to comply and were gathered in other areas in lower Manhattan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYaA-34c-vI"]OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTESTERS' ARRESTS - YouTube Other protests are going on across the United States. This is not supposed to be just a one day event. This is more along the lines of a sit-in. They are even conducting "Teach-Ins" too! People are bringing tents and sleeping bags. It's an ongoing protest, similar to Day of Rage protests from Spain to Egypt to Israel, which have been proven to be very effective. You can visit the US Day of Rage website for more info. Here is their twitter feed: http://twitter.com/#!/occupywallstnyc Protesters are calling for the end of the "Oligarchy", and recinding the Citizens United case which declared that corporations are people! Demonstrators are prepared to camp out as has been done in recent protests from Spain to Egypt to Israel. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2...onstrators-blocked/#?wtoeid=growl1_r1_control https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe1116UsZU4"]Cops Lockdown Wall Street From Day of Rage Protesters - YouTube
From the Day of Rage website. Keep in mind that permits are legally required for assemblies of more than 20 or more people within the confines of NYC public parks, which close at 10pm. YOU DO NOT NEED A PERMIT TO OCCUPY OR PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE ON PUBLIC SIDEWALKS. View Larger Map Once you have found a available space on a PUBLIC SIDEWALK form or join a block assembly. An assembly is a group of two or more people on a NYC PUBLIC SIDEWALK. Establish rules of order and rotating roles for each block's assembly. Roles like facilitator, secretary, and time keeper should rotate regularly. See suggested rules of order for assemblies. First order of business, decide on a back up block location should the assembly be illegally disbanded by the NYPD police or other government agents. Once assemblies are formed we suggest that they establish specific demands for the block occupation by consensus, for instance, 'One citizen. One dollar. One vote'.

I took part in the "UK" Governments Cuts in March I will be taking part in the UK Pensions fiasco in November It is the basic right to protest in order to protect - in these cases the actions of those money 'maker'(?) whose strategy has been and contniues to be flawed - whilst sitting in relevant comfort of protected financial security it is (as usual) the working man(?woman) who suffers. People power can make a difference - In unity we stand and togther we can achieve our respective victories :hurray:

I believe there would've been a much larger turnout, had the police not blockaded the entire area, allowing only residents and those who work in the area, to access Wall street. Come Monday this may turn into a bigger deal since everyone returns to work and any disruption could cause problems for everyone.
pretty cool to see something like this going on. this is a related protest in washington DC coming up http://october2011.org/statement http://october2011.org/statement
I wish I was near one of these. Also, what fuckin' pigs. Just look at them, you can tell. None of those "1 in ten" good cops to be seen there. But I guess thats how NYPD is, anyways, with the most marijuana arrests of any city in the world, despite decriminalization there.
