It's important to care about politics. Not stress about it, because there's only so much you can do; but it's important to care. If more people cared enough, especially democrats and liberals, the country would've never gotten in such a poor state.
I'm so over politics. Kinda always payed attention to it as far back as I can remember, but the past few years.....Gimme a phreaking break!!! Not even sure where I fit amongst party lines anyway. Always thought myself to be more republican because I'm pro military to the fullest. Peace would be great, but throughout history violence seems to be the supreme authority to which all other authorities derive. So, pro military check, pro death penalty check, pro securing the borders check, religion and social issues... stop the bus I'm out. Organized religion is a joke. Gays? Don't care if you're gay, straight, in between, confused, you're still people and I'll hang with anyone who can tolerate my shenanigans. Drugs? Legalize most of them and let natural selection take it's course!!
Correction: its important to care about the state of your country. The political status quo, on the other hand, doesn't deserve any attention. Politics seem nothing more than some childish fantasy game to me, played by very wealthy people that have absolutely no inkling of the problems of the constituents they're supposed to represent.
Both of my representatives have been 90-99% true to their promises, and one of them got a bit of national publicity for the ... passionate things he said about Republicans. I think it's pretty common for people to claim that politicians go against their promises without knowing what their politicians promised. Or common for people to perceive all politicians as being major compromisers, just because Presidents tend to be (and in some cases have to be)
The politicians from my state include a governor that used taxpayers' money to fly to rendezvous with his Argentinian lover, a leiutenent governor that compared people on welfare to stray animals that shouldn't be fed, a Congressman that is gung ho about war and financing it but routinely votes against funding for veterans, and oh...did I mention an unemployed man facing felony charges once won the Democratic Senate primary here, and yeah he probably was the best candidate..... lol so I guess we're coming from two different perspectives.
Nah. Our mayor sells jobs to his unqualified friends, gets in scandals for missing meetings and whatnot to go to hockey games, used tax money for a vacation, even had an affair with my friend's girl. Rick Santorum was a local politician a couple years back (who's primary residence was in another state, making him ineligible for local office) Our DA is fucking evil; our cops have gone completely corrupt almost overnight. Even our school's district attendant closed a few school for bullshit reasons to get bribes from rich neighbors that didn't want blacks in their area. But luckily we have some good people too. (Even though they're mostly at the federal level right now.) We've had worse times, we've had better times (as I'm sure is the same for your area). But it takes good voters for the few good ones to get in.
