Actually, if you knew the Bible you know that there are conditions on God. For one, it is impossible for God to lie.

Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

As I've already pointed out all these things are conditions on love and if you ignore these conditions then it isn't love.

But in your mind you are never wrong so you will continue to say that love has no conditions until you are blue in the face but the truth is there are conditions.

I apologize about butting in, but if those are conditions, then if you love, you believe all things, like what thedope's saying, right? Idk, I guess defining or setting conditions on love is tricky, because believing, hoping, and enduring all things sure sounds like another way to say love is unconditional. Regardless, feels like it's a strange debate honestly, I just know for certain the verses you quoted feel like a solid attempt at describing love and I like them a lot. :2thumbsup:

How do you know that? As I recall, in Genesis God tells Adam and Eve that if they eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge they would die, at least according to Eve. The Serpent said that wasn't true. Of course, Adam and Eve ate the fruit. Did they die? Did God lie?

If you believe as you do, you would think so.
    God is not mocked.

I do not say that love has no conditions because I am never wrong but because my chore is to help remove the barriers we have erected against love. There is no reason for withholding love, ever. The measure we give is the measure we receive. If we withhold love from anyone we also keep it far from ourselves. The gift we give our brothers we give to ourselves also, and giving is increase, as that you give remains with you and is received also by others.
I know what you believe. Please try and listen, Love is without condition means there is no condition that prohibits love.

(Hebrews 6:16-20) 16 For men swear by the one greater, and their oath is the end of every dispute, as it is a legal guarantee to them. 17 In this manner God, when he purposed to demonstrate more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his counsel, stepped in with an oath, 18 in order that, through two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to the refuge may have strong encouragement to lay hold on the hope set before us. 19 This [hope] we have as an anchor for the soul, both sure and firm, and it enters in within the curtain, 20 where a forerunner has entered in our behalf, Jesus, who has become a high priest according to the manner of Mel‧chiz′e‧dek forever.
Do you really want to side with Satan?

Anyway, my questions to you are where are Adam and Eve today? Are they dead? Did they die?

So which really was telling the truth God or Satan?

Adam and Eve probably died a spiritual death before their physical death. In the end, they did die, perhaps both ways and perhaps one would lead to the other as God would know the consequences of actions chosen. The end result was death.

I am guided by God's word, God is not mocked by doing so. You are guided by what you call the "holy spirit", which continually contradicts God's word, which indicates that the "holy spirit" disagrees with itself, that in itself would seem to mock God.
Actually according to the Scripture quoted, jealousy, bragging, getting puffed up, behaving indecently, looking for its own interests, becoming provoked, keeping account of the injury and rejoicing over unrighteousness, all seem to be conditions that prohibit love. Perhaps you should try to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying.

Other than the spiritual dead you speak of, there are many ways to look at the death of Adam and Eve. One can also think in terms of a day being a thousand years in God's eyes and so Adam and Eve died in that thousand year day. Also because of their sin and imperfection they began to die that very day. Their judgement of death was pronounced that day and since God word is sure they were as dead that day.

Oh, go ahead and butt in, the more the merrier. [IMG]

As for the Scripture, it has always been one of my favorites and it seems to work whether you believe in God or Christianity or not. :)

Interesting, Adam did live about 930 years, so perhaps it took them 70 years before they chose to pick from God's property (as you say thousand year day). Ample time to know exactly what they were doing.

So in any which way it is looked, God did not lie.

So jesus says take no oaths but simply let our answer be yes or no.
Paul says men take an oath and god accommodated them by establishing that he never lies. Hum, whom shall we believe?

It has always bothered me when people talk about Adam and Eve like they were 5 years old. They were adults and had perfect minds and thinking ability, unlike us.

I just thought of something and want to share.

There is a thousand year judgement day in the Bible so perhaps if Adam and Eve waited a thousand years before stealing from God's property then they would have been tested completely and would have lived in paradise forever without any issue.

By stealing they sold themselves short... Just a thought...

    Yup, same.

You got to be joking. [IMG]

Are you really so blinded by your spirit buddy that you can't see that Jesus was talking about what men should do and not talking about what God should do?

Possibly but I believe the judgement day is still in the future and does not apply to judgement in general.

Are you really so blind as not to see that you must be perfect even as your father in heaven is perfect. No I am not joking. God does not take oaths, his will is done. And whatever you ask in his name it will be done for you. I will, be done. The power of god moves in us, through us.
Everything that christ taught has universal application, not just good at parties. This is what I speak of when I say, it is helpful to look for consistency in premise. We are created in the likeness and image of god, let his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

And so the writer inspired by Holy Spirit was lying? [IMG]
Once again you half paraphrase a Scripture and then make some statement and expect your paraphrase to cover it.
Honestly take a look at it, Jesus was talking about men who were frivolously making oaths in God's name and telling them not to do that. Are you really saying that you think Jesus thought that God was frivolously making oaths in his own name? [IMG]

The passage you quote seems to say that it is impossible for God to lie about "two unchangeable things...", not everything. And by citing Scripture to prove your point, you seem to assume what you're trying to prove. For why believe Scripture? Because it's the word of God?

Oh, I see. If they had only not eaten the fruit, they'd be alive today. But we wouldn't?

That is true but it is still a condition on God, which was the point of citing it.
Well this is Sanctuary and most Christians believe the Bible is the word of God.

In any case, I was not using the Bible to prove the the Bible true, only that the Bible says there are conditions on God.
    What?

Did you not read; "Further, God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it". (Genesis 1:28) and this was said to them before they ate the fruit.

In fact, some believe that one of the reasons that Adam and Eve did not die instantaneously was so they could have children and those children would would have the opportunity to fill the Earth and one day live forever in the Paradise Earth that God purposed for mankind.

And most Christians believe in the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus, but some obviously do not. And some very knowledgeable Christians believe that Genesis is a moral allegory, not a factual account of what once happened.

Do you think if they hadn't eaten the fruit they would have continued to love forever? And what would have happened to all those children?Would they all have lived happily ever after in Eden?
