I hadn't either, but recently I've started to have them here and there. They seem much more meaningful than usual, but the dreams always seem just out of memory. Nothing more frustrating.
Dreams are probably your mind sorting out what it hasn't sorted out during the day by thinking. If you're not dreaming, you've somehow managed to do that.
This may sound strange, but both of you are totally right. When I am awake I think about problems and how to solve them all the time, so that when I have to go to sleep my tired mind goes completely blank so that I do not remember dreams. However, as a writer, I realised how increadibly useful dreams are for telling stories, because they say so much about the life you have when you are awake. So I used my very first nightmare to tell a story, of when I was two years old, while hoping that I dream again. Then this morning, I realised that I was dreaming and probably always dream , but it only takes a few seconds. I probably also forget the dream at some point.
As far as I know it is not possible not to dream. It is, however, possible not to remember your dreams.
I am able to remeber my dreams, and they are often such that I ponder upon them later on - I helps thatI have a pen/paper on my bedside table to scrawl notes in the '3 second memory' of which one has to recall them. Helpful tips? (1) Stay up and over your tired times - drift into slumber and the twight peiod may stimulate the senses. (2) Wind down and relax, and in time they will come (3) Try to sleep in a quiet zone where when one opens the window the only noises will be of nature - and indeed will allow the sprite of dream to enter, visit and deposit the visions of the night - Just a thought
Exactly what I was gonna say. Stop for just two days and you'll dream big time. Because marijuana affects your short-term memory, dreams don't usually make it to your long term memory in time. You definitely dream, but your memory is faulty. That's one reason why it's so helpful with PTSD. Those nightmares don't follow you when you wake up.
If you want to build up your dream memory start keeping a dream journal, keep a notebook and a pen next to your bed so when you wake up you can immediately start writing it down. If your having trouble having that first dream to start the cycle then take a piece of paper write down 'please help I wish to remember my dreams' say it out loud a couple times read what you have written then put it under your pillow. It sounds silly but it will plant the thought to remember your dream in your subconscious. It really does work to I did it when I wasn't remembering my dreams good luck!
