she has been taught about it and shown pictures in school.

    What the fuck
I need to ask her more about it. maybe i don't. there's no point in instilling that though in her mind anymore.

I remember seeing the Iran-Iraq war on TV when I was about that age. It scared the shit out me. Glad I turned out alright in the end.

why WOULD IT BE? If I send my kid to school its to learn about art and science and math and to play and to put his hands in materials and read and write...not watch the evening news. what 7 year old cares about this unless its in their family? It may matter to us but to a 7 year old? No ..not relevant info for schooling. Parents can teach about it at home.

Atrocities have happened throughout time enough to celebrate the memories of each one every day of our lives. Why should we worry our children with this in school? I see no point. I'm not saying its not a thing to remember but we allready have a small budget for education so I can't see where spending time and money on it is importnat in a classroom. if you want o run a 5k and raise money to support something or go to a concert int he park and take the family do so to celebrate and remember if you want but keep that stuff out of school. When I was in middle school we watched the oj trial on tv when it ended...WHY?? wtf is the point.

They don't show kids current or recent current atrocities in far away places of the world. I think politics is more a subject high school ages can understand and not be worried about. They can choose from facts and discuss what's real and not real.

But do you know the whole story about how it was brought up at school? Did one of the children ask about it or did the teacher just tell the kids we are going to talk about 9/11 today? If a child asked about it then it should be discussed. If the teacher brought it up I feel that she was dealing with kids that are to young to fully understand it.

It was in a lot of schools last week. It's possible that the district knew it was all over the news and thought that is needed to be addressed so children were more at ease on the happenings. What tends to happen is that when many kids hear half stories they all spread half storries around with each other. So maybe it was addressed to notice that there will be people remembering this to help kids be more at ease about the hype?...Some issues though unless it directly is in your familiy are too big for children to understand. We don't show them a single man murder trial in a classroom at age 7 but well tell them terrorist killed thousands in a blow in one day not too long ago? That can be scary to a 7 year old.

this is also how propaganda works, and how true history gets buried and we end up with history books more full of lies and deceptions then anything remotely resembling useful knowledge about the past.

To brainwash kids from the REAL TRUTH of 9/11 many believe!!

Its important to talk to young ones and help them realise the truth of this.....

Its in the curriculum across the nation. Any american history textbook made in the last 8-10 years includes 9/11 in the final chapter, the current american history chapter. For elementary through high school.

When I was in school they told us about how the H-Bomb will vaporize us, then we played "Duck and Cover" in the hallway.

I thought bomb drills were under the desk, from what I'm told. we never had them. But I did have tornado drills that were in the hallways.
