I have a small lap dog its half chiese something is all I know about breed. She always freaks out when someone comes home, never calms down. I play with her and walk her and try to get her tired, but she's an energizer bunny! It's bad because she jumps on people and pees because she's too excited all the time. The worst part is, my grandparents will NOT stop giving her food like treats all the time and even vanilla ice cream! This is, of course, one of the problems, but she was crazy before they started doing that.

    Help?!

thats why the dog poops and pees. it shouldnt be taking in sugars like that. being a small dog its even worse. Milk runs right though a dog. Give the dog its proper diet all the time. One steady food , no treat stuff... no babying dog when its acting up. demand it to stop NOW!1 reenforce a solid word the end your command and keep it the same.

No more candy and ice cream..

learn to be the alpha, it might resist at first but once you're the boss it has to follow. don't give your dog treats unless it has earned them by sitting on command or calming down, don't give your dog treats when its hyper or in a frenzy type of mood, that reinforces the behavior. idk what to do about your grandparents, they seem like part of the problem tho. a dog should never jump on ppl coming over, that's a sign that it feels entitled. look up ways to fix that type of behavior or talk to a vet or animal behavior specialist. do not let her be on the bed couches, places ppl normally sit unless she is calm or else she might feel more entitled. hope this helps peace

If only they would listen when I tell them not to baby her...they feel bad for her and can't stand to see her with a sad puppy face or hear her whine.

My dog gets too excitable sometimes too. I just pull her legs out from under her and make her lay on the ground. At first I had to keep my hand on her or she would get right back up, but now she's starting to learn the stay command so I can just do it with my voice.

Teach commands like the stay command under good circumstances, to be used later under bad circumstances. For example, throw a ball, hold its collar, and say "stay!" Give it a treat then let it go get the ball. Repeat this a few times until you get to the point where you don't have to hold the dog in place. Eventually your dog will learn the command well enough to react to it when you use it when she's being naughty.

Until your dog can consistently respond to voice commands, your best bet is to use physical force. When it starts to jump on someone, grab its legs so it loses balance and falls on the floor. Then hold her there, putting pressure on her neck. If the dog were in a pack the pack leader would bite its neck to show whats up, emulate this with your hand.

Training classes don't hurt either. You'll learn more tricks to assert your dominance as pack leader in a class.

well tell your grandparents to get over it and realize a dog is a dog. if a dog realizes it can get treats and 'rewards' by making a puppy face or whining, guess what, it's gonna use it to its advantage. it is reinforcing negative behavior that will become a life long habit. dogs arent like us, they don't get sad over nothing like humans tend to do. my aunt had 2 chihuahas that she spoiled the shit out of, she cooked chicken for them everynight, cooed at them and treated them like babies and dressed them up all the time and they ended up having aggression and anxiety issues and barked nonstop everytime someone came over. they became the leaders of the house and it was a nightmare to visit her
