high all... well in history class now were studying the late 1960s, and im like the only person in my class who listens to actual music (anything besides rap or emo). so, my teacher wants me to burn a cd of songs from woodstock. so, what would be a good mix of songs to let people hear actual music. im was thinking mostly along the lines of grateful dead, but what would be some good songs to include?
Wait... does she want the actual performances from Woodstock, songs from bands who played at Woodstock, or just '60s music?
get some Canned Heat, Jimi, Janis Joplin, Santana, don't bother with Joan Baez though....that'd just give them a bad impression....
Don't do the Grateful Dead. Try out a little Arlo Guthrie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Country Joe McDonald, John Sebastian, Ten Years After, and Joe Cocker. And don't be so close-minded to other types of music like rap and emo. You never know what you can find in those genres.
IMO jimmy and santana were the best performacnes at woodstock. CSNY was good too. arlo would be good. put that "marijuana!" song in there too, was it country joe and the fish that did that?
You should definitely put it "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan, because it's a huge political thing. Also "Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die" by Country Joe. "Teach Your Children" by CSN&Y was pretty big too. And just for fun, you've gotta play some Janis, some Dead, and some Hendrix, and some Beatles (though I'm sure you could find some political songs by all of them, like "Machine Gun" by Hendrix). Also maybe some Joni Mitchell, because the images in her songs are just beautiful
The WHO!!!!!! Beatles were NOT at woodstock neither was Bob Dylan Jefferson Airplane, Creedence, Country Joe and the Fish, Country Joe Mcdonald, Arlo Guthrie, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Hendrix, Perhaps Sly and The Family stone, they were said to haver played well, Canned Heat... but they played terribly at woodstock... I dont know if the Grateful Dead actually played at woodstock, I think they were just there, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker... Oh and yea, that MARAJUANA! thing was country joe and the fish
Oops, you're right. I guess it is a bit late. But I kind of forgot what this thread was about after I'd read other people's replies...:-D
I know the Beatles and Bob Dylan weren't at Woodstock...I'm not retarded. But I kind of didn't finish reading heartsnotfarts' post and started just thinking late 60's...
When I was little, I saw a cd in the store called Woodstock, and I had no idea what the hell it was! Either a band or what. Lol. I know perfectly well what it is now though....
