There's a lot of truth here from everyone about how manipulated by the money club the government is, regardless of which party is in power, which is why the people have to do a lot more than just go to the voting booths. But I have to respond to post 11. What are the Democrats doing to help the poor? Democrats are the ones in Washington trying to protect the social programs that keep the poor alive and provide support for health and education and job opportunities. The reason they don't do better with that is because a: the money club republicans don't want them to, and b: the public's misinformation and apathy. A and B are of course very related. What does Obama support that Bush didn't? He supports green energy, gay rights, fighting terrorism, (as opposed to just becoming another one as Bush did), universal healthcare, education, science.. that's just the first ones off the top of my head. I also wouldn't be hugely surprised if he came out some time after the election in favor of legalizing pot, despite whatever he may have had to say in the past in order to succeed at all as a politician. But again, Obama is fighting the GOP/money club and he isn't super-man, but despite that, he has reversed the economy's downward spiral, he's allowed people with pre-existing health problems to get health insurance, he's ended Don't Ask Don't Tell, ended tax benefits to corporations outsourcing American jobs, extended benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees, removed restrictions on stem-cell research, stopped US torture, $60 billion in spending and incentives for renewable and clean energy, and I could go on and on. Obama has been kicking butt, considering what he's up against. He's had his ass kicked too by the money club, but he's still fighting. If the money club were really controlling him, none of the above would ever have been accomplished. Who do you think would be most likely to destroy what little the poor, old and disabled have left after 2012; Obama, or Rick Perry?
That all sounds a bit hollow to me. Had his ass kicked by the money club? Had to laugh at that one, sorry.
I've gotten a lot better, trust me. I try not to be an asshole as much, but sometimes the prick in me shines through anyway. I don't let shit anger me as much anymore, though I still get a little frustrated by people who buy into the system as it's presented. You're right, though. I am working on it.
It sounds a bit hollow and I'm seen as a fool. That's fair enough, but I still would pick a president who is at least fighting for me as a poor American over one who would paint a target on me and call in the airstrike.
Politics can be deeply divisive when some parties hold their views to be incontrovertible fact insinuating that anyone differing with them possess intellectual deficiencies. I've seen this coming from otherwise perfectly intelligent, civil people-- I've even caught myself in this to some degree. For me, so much political rhetoric- whether in the form of bitter partisan bickering or as snippets and sound bytes offered to the press and media strikes me as very rehearsed and insincere- even choreographed when relatively obscure terms like "vitriolic" seem to simultaneously crop up in the media and from the mouths of congressmen and opinion pundits I just can get away from the sense that it is all just a manipulation intended to perpetuate focus on inner divisions and contrived issues- all for the purpose of keeping our collective attention off the real issues- like making corporate jets the new buzz word to divert our collective indignation on the admittedly greedy elite in order that we not pay attention to our government that is selling us out to them. Just my opinion though... the key seems to include making the subject such a sore point that people would rather just not give a fuck- feeding the toxic apathy that empowers those who oppress.
But Bush's policy wasn't apathy, it knew the difference between the economic abstraction commonly effecting the public's morals and the concrete difficulties of political wrangling of unchangeable statistical determinations. He'd something cause the judgments of Mount Helen to erupt at the time she was feared to. And then the knowledge failed when the ignorance of the common public was to be analyzed for the results of understanding the shame and pride needed to know what international (and for that matter national) deceits are afoot. Obama is much better on the reserved content of worldly threats to follow up on. As far effecting the people in fools being fooled, hey he has the great excuse that the people couldn't know how to tackle the business's at health and wealth anyway.
It's not about not caring, but about caring more than just enough to cast a suprficial vote and get a sticker telling everyboy you care. Attaining the appearance of caring by accepted methods solves nothing. It's about caring enough to get to the actual root of the problem. In order to get anything REAL done, we must abolish politics, not play the game.
I think everyone is fed up with the idea that voting with a party is any kind of answer, and I want to make it clear that I am NOT saying that it is. But when people are trying to hurt you, don't you at least do what you can to make it as difficult for them as possible? Locking your door, by it's self may not stop a determined burglar, but does that mean you just leave it open for them?
Obama is a puppet of the banks. He represents corporate America. Who do you think funded his campaign? I don't see what you're saying. Stop buying into the rhetoric and look at the actions of the people you place so much faith in. Please.
No you would not, for that would never be one of the preapproved choices. Voting is false action. We must take real action.
Doing nothing but voting is holding the door open. It makes things no harder for the criminals. It just helps people feel that they've done all they can do, even when they haven't really done anything and can do so much more.
OK, I get it! Voting is not enough. I've said that from the beginning! So if you really feel that voting is completely useless, then let's get busy now while we still have stuff like electricity and internet to communicate. How about getting behind the Occupy Wall Street protests?: http://usdayofrage.org/ If we are not even going to lock the door then let's just get out of the fucking house!
