Hello friends, I was hoping some you guys might have some experience and therefore answers to my question. Ive been doing adderal more or less 5 to 6 days a week since I was 20 to 21. ( I am now 25) Im starting to think about long term effects and how bad it will be to get off them. I done about 30 to 40 mgs on a regular basis for the last three years. I kinda of think that since it is a relatively small dosage. Please only answer if you have personal experience or a friend or family member that went thru it. Thanks for your help. Rcheadache
I got bad off on adderal. I only took it for two years, but I got to the point where I would snort or orally blow through an entire month's prescription in one week. So, I felt bad for a few days after I finished each script, but the uneasy lethargy eventually goes away. It takes a while to get used to not being on uppers all the time, though. This is where marijuana comes in handy. Yep, yep, yep.
My brother and mom have both been prescribed adderal for a long time. My brother stopped taking it about a year ago after several years and he didn't report any problem with quitting. He was experiencing a lot of bad side effects of being on speed all the time though. He had trouble eating and sleeping most days, even after having taken it most of his life. My mother however takes it ever day, i think 40 mg, and she tends to have issues if she goes without it. It certainly can cause dependence, not as bad as opiates but definitely worse than weed and hallucinogenics. I think it really depends on whether taking it on a daily basis is beneficial to you or harmful. If you're experiencing side effects, then you might be relieved to quit, but if you have trouble concentrating or being active without it then you might be better off taking it.
It is hellish to go off of stimulants. I am prescribed them (currently Vyvanse, which is just dextro-amphetamine) and for a month and a half I didn't take any (because I wanted to see how I would do without any stimulants medications) and it was a horrible time period. Even after a full month and a half, I never felt quite right. I slept like 14 hours per day and just felt like life was boring and dull. Amphetamines taken a reasonable doses are not considered particularly neurotoxic if taken in the long-term. HOWEVER, there is strong evidence that amphetamines taken at very HIGH doses or in a 'binge' fashion for a long time causes neurotoxicity. Compared to the neurotoxicity of other Dopamine and Serotonin releasing agents like Dextro-Methamphetamine, however, regular amphetamine is much safer. Again, though, I am talking about doses of say 50mg of raw amphetamine per day OR LESS.
Thanks for the answers guys Good looking out. I normally take 20 to 40 a day and a couple on Saturday nights usually dont take it on sundays. I dont have Adhd Just tricked the doctor into prescribing it to me. It really does make most days tolerable and I have energy which is something I always naturally lacked. SO basically I should be fine As long as I dont overdue it??
Just as a random aside to prove how addictive Adderall is if taken up the nose: I haven't had Adderall in about 11 months and have not snorted any stimulant for about 4 months, since I got off of Ritalin and put onto Vyvanse (by MY choice- I didn't want to destroy my nose from snorting stimulants my whole life...) which is only active orally. Anyways, I had a dream, both Friday AND Saturday night about finding a blue 10mg Adderall IR pill in some odd place, like under my bed or my couch. And, naturally, in my dream, I crushed it right up and insufflated it. That is pretty interesting IMO.
I took alot of Adderall and Dexedrine in higschool. 30-60mgs snorted or parachuted virtually every day for a couple years. I developed clinical depression and general anxiety disorder, which I, and my doctors attributed to the amps. Not to mention to couple instances of amphetamine psychosis. After years of being off them I'm pretty much back to normal.
